Key pillar of Planning & Analytics team to establish a Center of Excellence for Archives & Libraries (A&L) Group that governs both strategic planning and business intelligence. The Assistant Director partners A&L management to enable data-driven decisions, manage performance, and allocate resources effectively. You will own the entire lifecycle of A&L’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and performance reporting, transforming raw data into actionable insights. This role is the primary spokesperson and subject matter expert for A&L on all matters of data, analytics, and business intelligence, responsible for empowering the organisation with clarity and real performance through data.
[What you will be working on]
Strategic Leadership
- Lead and own the A&L strategy for business intelligence, performance reporting, and corporate planning.
- Act as the primary analytical advisor to the A&L & NLB, translating complex data and financial plans into clear, strategic narratives.
- Serve as the lead BI consultant for A&L divisions, translating their strategic questions into analytical projects and dashboards.
- Conduct deep-dive analyses to uncover trends, diagnose performance issues, and provide data-driven recommendations.
Business Intelligence & Performance Oversight
- Architect, build, and own the full A&L’s performance dashboards and reports using modern BI tools (QlikSense, Power BI, Tableau). Take full ownership of all KPI reporting, ensuring data is accurate, timely, and presented in a compelling, easy-to-understand format for all A&L.
- Lead the seamless transition and consolidation of all current-state A&L KPI reporting into a unified, automated, and insightful BI platform.
- Champion best practices in data visualisation and storytelling to ensure insights are clear, digestible, and actionable.
- Ensure the BI roadmap aligns with the A&L’s evolving strategic questions.
Data Modeling & Governance
- Design and manage the analytical data models that serve as the foundation for all reporting, ensuring they are efficient and scalable.
- Act as the primary authority on metric definitions and data governance for A&L, establishing trust and consistency in all reporting.
- Partner with Technology and Data Offices to define data needs and ensure the integrity of the data pipeline.
Corporate Planning & Financial Management
- Lead annual A&L workplan and budget consolidation process from start to finish, ensuring alignment with overall NLB objectives.
- Partner with the Finance department to ensure financial governance and with division heads to validate their workplans and budget submissions.
- Develop and present financial scenarios, risk analyses, and resource allocation recommendations to A&L.
- Oversee the tracking and reporting of budget vs. actuals, providing insights on performance variances.
[What we are looking for]
- 5 to 12 years of relevant experience in a combination of Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Corporate Strategy, or a related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in leading strategic and financial planning cycles (AOP, forecasting, QBRs).
- Deep familiarity with modern BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and financial modeling principles.
- Exceptional executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build credibility at all levels including Senior Management and C-suite levels
- Strong strategic mindset with an ability to connect disparate data points into a cohesive business narrative.
Work location will be at the Marine Parade Public Library. As the library is currently closed for renovation, the current work location is at the National Library Building.
Successful applicant will be appointed on an initial two-year contract.
