Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Recreation plays a key leadership role in delivering exceptional guest experiences across the resort’s recreation, activities, wellness, and leisure divisions. Supporting the Director of Recreation, this position ensures that all programs, facilities, and guest interactions reflect the highest levels of luxury, personalization, and service excellence. The Assistant Director collaborates closely with key departments, beach and pool, marina/water sports, Tennis and Rackets, golf and experiences teams—to curate memorable, seamless leisure experiences that define the resort’s brand.
Key Responsibilities
Luxury Recreation Programming & Guest Engagement
- Support the design and execution of curated recreation and leisure programs that align with luxury hospitality standards, including cultural activities, wellness experiences, environmental education, and bespoke private sessions.
- Elevate the resort’s activity offerings through innovation, creativity, and alignment with guest expectations for exclusivity, authenticity, and personalization.
- Ensure that all programs—family, adult, wellness, fitness, water sports, sports activities, and seasonal experiences—meet the resort’s brand promise and maintain consistently high guest satisfaction scores.
Pool, Beach & Water Recreation Oversight
- Oversee the daily operations of premium beach and pool areas, ensuring impeccable cleanliness, ambiance, and presentation.
- Collaborate with F&B to ensure seamless poolside and beachside service integration.
- Manage water sports operations (motorized and non‑motorized), ensuring guest safety, equipment excellence, and luxury-tier service delivery.
- Support the creation of elevated water experiences such as guided snorkel tours, sunset sails, private charters, and ocean eco‑adventures.
Sports & Rackets
- Support operations across, tennis/pickleball courts, golf areas and active recreation spaces.
- Oversee scheduling for instructors, coaches, and recreation hosts, ensuring coverage and exceptional guest interaction.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Inspire and lead a diverse recreation team, reinforcing the resort’s luxury culture and values through coaching, recognition, and mentorship.
- Conduct recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluations with a focus on cultivating talent capable of delivering anticipatory, intuitive service.
- Champion continuous training in safety, service excellence, and guest personalization.
Operational Excellence & Facility Management
- Ensure all recreation venues maintain five‑star presentation standards and undergo daily inspections.
- Oversee maintenance coordination for equipment, pools, watercraft, activity spaces, and gear.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols, risk management, and emergency response procedures.
Guest Relations & Service Recovery
- Serve as an accessible leader for guests, ensuring prompt, thoughtful resolution to concerns or special requests.
- Build strong relationships with high‑value guests, VIPs, and long‑stay visitors, ensuring tailored activity recommendations and personalized leisure itineraries.
- Monitor guest feedback channels and help implement improvements.
Administrative & Financial Responsibilities
- Support budget development, cost control, revenue generation, payroll scheduling, and forecasting.
- Assist with inventory management, procurement, and vendor relationships.
- Produce reports reflecting participation, revenue, guest satisfaction, staffing, and operational outcomes.
Leadership Presence
- Serve as Acting Director in their absence, providing stable leadership, communication, and decision‑making.
- Represent the recreation department in cross‑functional meetings, resort wide initiatives, and luxury‑level experience planning.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Hospitality, Sports Management, Resort Administration, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of recreation or luxury hospitality experience, ideally in a five‑star or Forbes-rated environment.
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience in recreation, wellness, sports, or guest experience.
Core Competencies
- Passion for luxury guest service, with strong emotional intelligence and anticipatory service instincts.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with guests from diverse cultures.
- Experience working in outdoor, oceanfront, or resort environments.
- Knowledge of luxury service standards (Forbes, LQA, AAA Five Diamond) strongly preferred.
- CPR/AED/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain shortly after hire).
Working Conditions
- Dynamic outdoor setting with frequent guest interaction around pools, beaches, fitness centers, and activity areas.
- Requires availability on weekends, evenings, and holidays based on resort occupancy and event schedules.
- May involve lifting equipment, participating in recreation activities, and working in varying weather conditions.
