Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the department and institution as well as the rules and regulations of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), MAC Freedom, the NCAA, and other authorities that may legitimately influence the intercollegiate athletics program.
Complete all required departmental and institutional training and certification programs and participate in available professional development opportunities.
Perform in service training and drills to help educate and further staff development.
Serve as a member of our CARE team on campus and assist with outreach to students when necessary or delegate this responsibility as appropriate to another member of the sports medicine staff.
Serve as the Athletics Health Care Administrator designee for the NCAA. Responsible for receiving, disseminating, and monitoring health and safety legislation, resources, and inter-association recommendations from the NCAA.
Maintain required continuing education units by the National Athletic Trainers Association along with the New Jersey Athletic Training Licensure and ensure that all sports medicine staff comply.
Annually update all the Sports Medicine protocols and procedures, such as the department’s emergency action plan and concussion protocols, in conjunction with the team physicians, and disseminate to the athletic department.
Coordinate medical coverage for all home varsity events and practices including both traditional and non-traditional seasons.
Ensure proper medical clearance at the start of each academic year for all student athletes through completion of appropriate medical forms.
Manage the sports medicine inventory of equipment and supplies and place new orders as necessary. Monitor maintenance of all equipment and ensure that it is in good working order.
Oversee all budget related items for the Sports Medicine Office. Manage the processing of the team physicians’ contracts and annual insurance claims.
Serve as liaison to health insurance companies and provide solutions and answers to health insurance questions.
Collaborate with team physicians to coordinate campus clinic schedules, off campus appointments, evaluations, diagnostic testing, rehabilitation, and medical clearances.
Oversee and direct physical therapy needs including working with an outside physical therapy clinic for long term and chronic injuries.
Supervise the weather conditions through the office’s weather monitoring system to make sure environmental conditions are safe for intercollegiate sport contests.
Oversee the evaluation of all injuries with team physicians and ensure appropriate action is advised.
Responsible for keeping the appropriate individuals aware of current health care issues as they may arise to help ensure their overall well-being and safety.
Organize, maintain, and make certain that the sports medicine office is always sanitary and in good working order.
Supervise sports medicine staff to include the assistant athletic trainers, part-time athletic trainers, outside staff, and work study students. Devise a weekly work schedule of coverage for all team members.
Work directly with the Director of Student Health Services, Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, Dean of Students, Director of Disability Services, dietician and the strength and conditioning staff concerning any health matters and maintain strong open communication.
Arrange educational events during National Athletic Training Month to promote health and wellness or assign to a designee.
Maintain medical records and ensure appropriate privacy and record retention methods are in order.
Regular day, early morning, evening, and weekend hours are required. Some travel is involved with various teams as necessary.
Serve on the department’s senior administrative staff council to assist in formulating departmental policies and procedures, decision making, and general oversight of department operations.
Other duties assigned by the Director of Athletics or Senior Associate Director of Athletics.
Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees required.
Experience
Minimum of 4-6 years’ experience at the college or high school level is strongly preferred.
Specific Skills:
● Communicate effectively and professionally, including written, interpersonal, and public speaking.
● Must be willing to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Specialized Licenses
First Aid, CPR, AED training certification required.
First Aid, CPR, AED instructor training certification preferred.
Current NATA certification and NJ State License required.

In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $71,000.00 - $97,066.67. This range represents the University’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position’s scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
