Job Description:
The Assistant Director of Advancement Events is responsible for the comprehensive project management and execution of events that support the fundraising goals of the Division of Advancement and the University’s top priorities. This manages a personal portfolio of high-touch events, which may include donor recognition and stewardship events (e.g., dedications, groundbreakings) and other celebrations related to strategic priorities. Collaborating with partners across the division, the Assistant Director serves as the primary point of contact and subject-matter expert to drive partner goals and ensure initiatives move forward in a strategic, timely manner. As a member of the Advancement Events team, they also provide support by leading broader Advancement events as needed.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in a related field such as event planning and coordination, strategic planning, marketing, project management, customer service, and volunteer management.
Experience in a higher education or non-profit setting preferred.
Some management experience required.
Job Competencies
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), the Google suite of tools, web and email technologies, and database management is essential, with a willingness to adapt and learn new technologies swiftly.
Proficiency with Zoom (Meeting and Webinar) and CRM software
Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, develop, and execute a large-scale event from start to finish.
Experience in project management
Proven track record of being highly proactive and detail-oriented. Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills required.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities to meet timelines and shifting deadlines. Develop and manage tasks, timelines, and workflows to completion.
Demonstrate a proactive, creative mindset, with the ability to think strategically and innovate. They must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and be adept at managing multiple sensitive issues and tasks simultaneously.
Demonstrated professional, customer-service oriented, and positive attitude.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are vital, with the ability to engage effectively with faculty, senior administration, and high-profile donors.
Experience collaborating across a team and the ability to build productive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to apply sound judgment and make impactful, responsible decisions.
Facility with budget management, budget forecasting, and excellent analytical skills.
A positive, can-do attitude coupled with a creative and innovative approach to programming. Flexibility is paramount, as the position may require occasional evening and weekend work, as well as domestic travel.
