Job Summary:

Position leads on accounting projects, system implementations, process improvement initiatives, and new accounting pronouncement implementations. This position prepares or assists in the review for accuracy of all interim financial statements, the annual audited statement, the quarterly external financial statements, capital accounting, lease accounting, net accounts receivable valuation, consolidations and eliminations, and joint-venture accounting for all entities included in the St. Elizabeth audited financial statements, including St. Elizabeth Physicians. Position is also responsible for annual St. Elizabeth and St. Elizabeth Physicians financial schedules to support the Form 990 tax reporting.

Job Description:

Lead the GL team to produce accurate, GAAP compliant, consolidated monthly financial reports for St. Elizabeth Hospitals and St. Elizabeth Physicians to be distributed to Senior Management and the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.  This includes financial analysis, oversight of account reconciliations, and review/preparation of reports to support the footnote disclosures.  Assist/review comprehensive reports prepared on a quarterly basis to meet bond compliance requirements.  Responsible for managing the accurate reporting of all hospital statistics for both internal and external parties.

Manage and coach a subordinate group.   

  • Develop, promote, and maintain professional relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Train, develop and coach, counsel, assign duties and work schedules.  Evaluate job performance and review performance appraisal with personnel.  Initiate or recommend necessary counseling, disciplinary actions, termination, and commendatory actions.
  • Design/implement efficient services, offer revenue enhancements, monitor expenses, benchmark, encourage service excellence and provide effective communications.
  • Delegate and check daily assignments. Prioritize and delegate tasks and projects within the department. 

Lead accounting projects, system implementations, and process improvement initiatives.  Provide/review/reconcile SEH/SEP financial schedules for the annual Form 990 tax reporting.  Research/implement new accounting pronouncements. 

ERP system responsibilities:

  • Lead accounting representative on all projects involving ERP system financials.
  • Lead necessary combo edit restrictions.
  • Ensure proper accounting periods are open for GL and sub-systems to manage accurate data
  • Lead subsystems to determine how to resolve variances.
  • Work with the Information System department to manage GL testing for upgrades and patches.
  • Work with managers to answer reporting questions for their cost center.
  • Create ERP system reporting layouts in response to management needs.
  • Instruct associates on how to run ERP system reports and investigate discrepancies.

Provide support for St. Elizabeth Physicians accountants.

Other duties as assigned by the System Controller, Vice-President of Finance, or the Chief Financial Officer.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance

Specialized Knowledge: 

  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to analyze and review financial statements and related ratios and statistical information. 
  • Ability to research proper accounting treatment of unusual items and forecasting and budgeting skills.

Kind and Length of Experience: 

  • At least 8 years of accounting in a medium to large organization with multiple locations and complex accounting issues. 
  • Managerial and Supervisory experience is also required.
