Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Assistant Consultant, Sustainable Land and Resource Management . We are seeking candidates who are looking to work on some of the largest and most interesting Sustainability framework and carbon projects in the Middle East (ME), UK and internationally.
Join our Environment and Sustainability Practice to deliver sustainability certifications and sustainability framework projects and assist with the development of sustainability consultancy within the ME and UK Markets for new build and existing buildings and communities. Work spans concept through stages of preconcept to detailed design and procurement, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
You will operate within a team of sustainability professionals delivering the highest standards of technical work and aiding the continued success of the Sustainability team by being an integral part of our client focused delivery of projects. You'll also get the opportunity to work on exciting and significant projects, delivering quality work that has a positive and lasting influence on the community and the environment.
This position offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement, allowing a blend of home and office working.
Your role
- 2 - 5 years’ experience in environmental assessment, either in contaminated/brownfield land, water or waste assessments.
- Post Graduate Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science subject e.g. geology, geosciences, chemistry, environmental science and hydrogeology.
- Experience of conducting Phase 1 Site Assessment and Phase 2 intrusive Site Investigation, with experience of multiple site investigation techniques.
- Knowledge and technical understanding of conceptual site models and generic risk assessments for soils and waters.
- Proficient ability to interpret, review and analyse large and complex soil and water data and producing well written factual and interpretative reports.
- Experience of management of a team, ensuring the team has sufficient workload to meet productivity targets.
- Experience of technical support to members of the team, supporting and driving their development and ensuring a high-quality deliverable to time and budget
- Good communication and presentation skills with ability to network and build strong links to the UK practice. ·
- Understanding of environmental regulations ideally in the UK.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently or within a team.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to the project/team/wider team.
- Experience of working for global regions will be preferable either in an excellence centre or in the region.
- Located near an AtkinsRéalis India office ideally Bengaluru or Mumbai, or willingness for regular travel to visit the team.
- Knowledge / experience in soil waste management/waste handling/waste remediation is an advantage.
- Field work experience would be an advance but not essential.
- Knowledge and technical understanding of controlled waters (surface water and groundwater) and human health risk assessments and screening criteria used in the UK.
- UK industry standards and codes of practice for ground investigations and potentially contaminated sites i.e. CIRIA, 2001. Contaminated land risk assessment. A guide to good practice (C552), and have broad understanding of DEFRA, 2012. Environmental Protection Act 1990: Part 2A, Contaminated Land Statutory Guidance etc.
About you
- Team and line management, ensuring the team has sufficient workload to meet productivity target.
- Build excellent network, excellent professional relationships and strong links to the UK practice including utilising good communication and presentation skills. ·
- Lead technical delivery, ensuring quality of deliverables produced by themselves and the team and support technical development of members of the team.
- Support and lead on preparation of technical proposals and input into bids for multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
- Liaison with clients, stakeholders, regulators, sub-contractors, and other internal disciplines.
- Project management of deliverables to time and budget and client liaison.
- Originate, check and review environmental assessment i.e. contaminated/brownfield land, water or waste assessments and reporting deliverables.
- Assisting in designing or able to design (then organise) environmental/geo-environmental site investigations, including soil sampling and ground gas/vapour/leachate/groundwater and surface water monitoring/sampling.
- Compliance with Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, including preparing and reviewing health and safety plans and managing health and safety on sites.Developing own competence with support from the business on own training and development needs.
