Assistant City Attorney

Dallas City Attorney’s Office – D/FW Airport

The Dallas City Attorney’s Office is seeking an energetic, self-motivated attorney with at least five years of experience, including experience in Texas municipal or state criminal courts, to fill a full-time position at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (Airport).

The successful candidate will provide advice and counsel to the Airport’s Department of Public Safety, including D/FW Police Department, D/FW Fire Department, and D/FW Aviation Security Department on matters regarding search and seizure questions, probable cause determinations, property disposition, and other questions related to criminal procedure. The successful candidate will provide legal opinions on evidentiary questions, review and advise regarding agreements with surrounding jurisdictions, review and negotiate training agreements, advise regarding badging processes and security practices at the Airport, review and advise regarding standard operating procedures, support officers for depositions and hearings, and provide training on constitutional and criminal laws. 

The successful candidate will also review and advise regarding fire code enforcement and compliance, and monitor proposed legislation and court decisions, recommending and implementing policy and procedural improvements as needed.  Additionally, the successful candidate will serve as a liaison with Tarrant County and Dallas County District Attorney’s Offices, municipal courts for Grapevine, Coppell, Irving, and Euless and resident federal agencies, including the Transportation Security Administration and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency.  The successful candidate will also provide legal advice and draft briefs for requests submitted pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act and provide additional legal support to the Airport Board as may be required from time to time. Other duties may be assigned.

Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Texas and be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. The successful candidate must pass a criminal background check for Criminal Justice Information Services certification. Candidates must be proficient in legal research and writing, communicate effectively, and possess the ability to work efficiently and collaboratively in an office environment.

Salary is commensurate with experience. The city’s comprehensive benefits package comes with the position. This position is exempt from the provisions applicable to civil service, pursuant to Chapter XVI, Section 9 of the Dallas City Charter.

Salary Range

 

$114,150.40 - $142,688.00


 

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
