Assistant City Attorney
Dallas City Attorney’s Office – Torts


The Dallas City Attorney’s Of􀏐ice is seeking an energetic, self-motivated civil litigator with a minimum of 􀏐ive years of relevant experience to 􀏐ill a full-time civil litigation position in the Torts Section of the Litigation Division. Applicants should be familiar with and have experience defending personal injury lawsuits in Texas state court. Applicants must have excellent research, writing, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Applicants must also be organized, able to work well under pressure, have excellent communication skills, and must be licensed to practice law in Texas.
This position involves defending tort claims under the Texas Tort Claims Act. The successful candidate will manage a high volume of tort litigation, including drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, written discovery, and other case-related documents; attending depositions; appearing at hearings; and serving as lead or co-counsel in all phases of case preparation, including trial preparation and trials. Responsibilities include negotiating settlements, mediating cases, and brie􀏐ing and arguing tort-related appeals, as necessary, in collaboration with the Appellate Section. The successful candidate will also manage third-party subpoenas and discovery requests in civil and criminal cases where the city is not a party and may occasionally assist with federal constitutional tort claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1983. Other duties may be assigned.
Salary is commensurate with experience. The city's comprehensive bene􀏐its package comes with the position. This position is exempt from the provisions applicable to civil service, pursuant to Chapter XVI, Section 9 of the Dallas City Charter.
