An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Chief Engineer in the EC&I business of Rolls-Royce Submarines. EC&I underpins the safe control of the plant, ensuring that the platform can deliver its mission safely and effectively in the most demanding environments.
What you will be doing
Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with the Program Chief Engineers and other key program stakeholders to define the technical programme of work required to support the complete product lifecycle; design, development, build, test, verification, validation, operation and disposal
Deliver a product that is fully compliant to all the product requirements & fully integrated with the other elements of the programme Work Breakdown Structure (supply chain, programme etc) These programmes of work will largely be delivered through engineering teams within the EC&I organisation. The organisation will operate in accordance with extant processes and business management systems to deliver right-first-time outputs that meet the Quality-Cost-Delivery challenge placed by the program Chief Engineers
Define and maintain EC&I engineering capability and technical methods to support products and services well into the future. They will work closely with the Heads of Capability to ensure the long-term strategic management of that capability within the Submarines business and supply chain
Lead the change management process within engineering to ensure that the level of change and the incorporation of it are managed
Manage non-conformance against design intent throughout the product lifecycle (in manufacture, build, commissioning, and maintenance) to ensure that the known configuration and condition of the product is consistent with the safety-justified baseline and hence safe and responsible operation of the plant is not undermined
Assist the EC&I Chief Engineer with assuring and managing product safety through compliant use of proven processes and lead closure strategies to timely completion
Establishing and maintaining the overall governance structure on behalf of the Chief Engineer to ensure that quality, schedule and cost targets are achieved.
Implementing effective Risk Management and Project Gated Review Processes
Representing the EC&I Chief Engineer as required

Who we’re looking for
Significant experience delivering Safety Critical Complex Systems (Electrical/Electronic/Software/Hardware/Sensors, ideally within the Submarines domain) through the engineering lifecycle to the relevant standards.
Experienced in managing customer and stakeholder relationships
Proven track record of setting top level engineering direction and driving through to delivery
Proven track record in delivering simplification initiatives at scale
Known for challenging and positively disrupting the status quo to strategic benefit for customers/functions/partners/stakeholders & suppliers
