Our Merchandise team works with supplier partners and store teams on category ranging, buying, pricing and promotions so we can get the right products on the right shelves at the right time for our customers.
Te Tūranga – About the role
We’re looking for an Assistant Category Manager – Beer & Cider to support the end to end management of one of our most dynamic and fastmoving categories across PAK’nSAVE, New World and Four Square.
Working closely with the Category Manager, you’ll help design and execute category strategies, manage daytoday trading activity and support strong commercial outcomes across pricing, promotions, ranging and supplier performance. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to deepen their category management experience in a large, complex retail environment.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting the planning, organisation and operation of the Beer & Cider category across all retail banners
Developing category plans and initiatives aligned to overall Coop and banner strategies
Reviewing pricing and promotional performance to optimise customer value and commercial outcomes
Managing product, pricing and promotional administration with a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness
Building effective working relationships with suppliers, stores and internal business units
Coordinating promotional activity and ensuring outputs are delivered to agreed timelines
Responding to store queries and supporting store teams with category related issues
Supporting forecasting accuracy to identify risks and opportunities early
Help bring the category to life through major campaigns and events - including the New World Beer & Cider Awards and the Fresh Hop campaign

You’re commercially curious, detailoriented and motivated to learn. You enjoy working at pace, can juggle multiple priorities and take pride in delivering highquality work. You’re comfortable collaborating with others, but confident standing on your own two feet when needed.
Ideally, you’ll have:
Experience in operational or commercial roles involving ranging, pricing and promotions
Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, risks and opportunities
Exposure to category management or large merchandise environments (retail or FMCG advantageous)
Experience supporting supplier negotiations and managing commercial relationships
Good numeracy and intermediate Excel capability (e.g. pivot tables, lookups and analysis)
Excellent planning, communication and stakeholdermanagement skills
A strong work ethic, resilience and the ability to manage high volumes of work
A genuine appetite to learn, grow and build a career in category management
