Reporting to the Manager, AskHR, you will be responsible for handling complex administrative tasks, escalations and more advanced employee inquiries representing subject matter experts. The AskHR Specialist will work with a higher level of inquiry that requires advanced knowledge, interpretation and accurate application of policies and practices, severance, benefits entitlements, and complex leave options under corporate policies, Collective Bargaining Agreement, Employment Standard Act (ESA) and other legislations.

About the Role

  • Update retirement log weekly, and process complex assigned severance and retirement calculations with accuracy and timeliness including Termination Settlements (salary continuance, grievance, ESA, human rights, litigations), Death Benefit and complex employment reinstatements.
  • Process employee terminations in Workday, ensuring accurate entry of termination details and compliance with pension and benefits administration requirements.
  • Monitor Workday for termination tasks, reviewing and processing terminations in a timely manner to maintain data accuracy and workflow efficiency.
  • Validate bi-weekly file of OPT termination data (retrieve, compare against system data, validate key fields, identify discrepancies, approve and submit file).
  • Oversee and monitor WSIB coding for maximum entitlement, processing, calculating WSIB top-up, and advising managers on complex leave management.
  • Processing LTIP approvals and end dates including notifying pension administrator and relevant insurance provider of premium waiver if applicable.
  • Processing Graduated Return to Work (GRTW) start and end including consultation with the employee and manager about ESS and MSS options in Workday.
  • Action leave of absence tasks which are time sensitive/pay impacting prior to payroll processing and leave extensions upon manager approval. 
  • Follow up with and coach managers/employees on correcting leave types & dates, approval levels, supporting documentation and employee intention regarding maintaining pension and benefits.
  • Provide higher level inquiry support to address challenging questions including employee entitlements, ESA leaves and ROE-related inquiry
  • Creating critical letter forms for mail merging and co-ordination of printed letters for third party fulfillment.
  • Identify opportunities to develop and maintain reference guides and ServiceNow articles 
  • Provide back up support on the phone lines as per business needs 

About You

  • College Diploma or University degree in a related discipline (Human Resources, Business, or a related field)  
  • Generalist HR experience and formal, or working towards, HR Certification.
  • Ability to analyze complex reports/data/ability to summarize data, make recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience with severance calculations.
  • Demonstrated experience with provisions under the Employment Standards act.
  • Experience in a unionized environment, ability to understand and apply articles of collective agreement
