Job Description:

Academy Charter School is looking for an Art Teacher to lead a K–8 program, from foundational art in grades K–5 to electives in grades 6–8. This role focuses on drawing, painting, and other media while helping students develop creativity, focus, and confidence. Art at ACS is part of developing the whole child, building skill, patience, and pride in one’s work. We’re looking for a teacher who brings art to life, supports all students, and creates a calm, structured classroom where students can do their best.

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

Responsibilities:   

  • Teach art to students in grades K–5 and offer engaging art elective courses to students in grades 6–8

  • Design and implement a visual arts curriculum aligned with Colorado State Standards and the Core Knowledge Sequence

  • Foster students’ understanding and appreciation of art history, cultural traditions, and foundational techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media

  • Manage art supplies, materials, and displays of student artwork throughout the school

  • Supports all students, including students who are linguistically diverse or have an IEP or 504 plan

  • Demonstrates exceptional instructional practices

  • Collaborates with other faculty in the delivery of appropriate instructional approaches, working to serve the various learning styles and needs of all students

  • Models and fosters independent thinking skills, creative problem-solving, and abstract reasoning

  • Shows empathy and understanding of students

  • Creates a safe learning environment where each child excels

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field

  • Valid Colorado Teaching License w/ endorsement in Art Education (or ability to obtain)

  • Expert-level written and oral communication skills

  • Entrepreneurial outlook and charter school commitment

  • Ability to work collaboratively

  • Strong self-starter; able to work with limited direction

  • Able to work 7:15 a.m.-3:45 p.m. M-F

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous teaching experience

  • Experience in and knowledge of charter schools

Salary: $52,900  - $64,000

FTE: 1.0 full-time

  • All salary amounts listed above are based on a full-time (1.0) FTE. If applicable, part-time salaries will be prorated according to the assigned FTE.
