The Role + Purpose: We are looking for another Art Director to join our team who possesses strong concept and design skills with a great aesthetic. Candidates will be responsible for creating visual concepts and art direction for photography shoots and developing monthly brand content campaigns in an engaging, relevant and inspiring style. The creative team is also responsible for producing social-first brand content, and all shoots must be approached with both commercial brand needs and social content needs in mind. Applicants must have a solid understanding of design principles and of the brand aesthetic, with excellent organizational, collaborative and interpersonal skills to excel in this role. A strong knowledge of fashion, photographers and seasonal trends is also required.

  • Develop creative concepts for monthly brand campaigns and photography shoots across Men’s, Women’s and Crewcuts. Map out seasonal visual narratives from concept through final execution, ensuring all concepts are developed with a social-first mindset and serve both commercial and platform-native content needs.
  • Collaborate with the SVP of Brand Creative on all projects, including conceptual development, art direction for photography, styling coordination, and overseeing brand content creation.
  • Partner closely with the Director of Social on all shoots and campaigns to ensure content strategy, capture needs, and creative output are aligned across commercial and social channels.
  • Contribute to the design team's library of inspiration references and visual mood boards.
  • Art direct studio and location photography shoots, working closely with photographers and stylists to achieve brand vision for monthly content. All shoots must be planned and executed with deliberate consideration for both commercial brand deliverables and social-first content capture.
  • Collaborate with copywriters, merchandisers, graphic designers, and stylists to ensure visual storytelling aligns with brand messaging for each campaign.
  • Provide detailed retouching notes to the retouching team and maintain quality control to ensure visual consistency and brand standards are upheld across all photography and branded content.
  • Oversee video editing for all assigned shoots, shepherding each project from initial concept through to final delivery and going live.
  • Manage all aspects of the creative process from initial concept through final delivery of monthly brand assets and photography, including social-first formats and platform-specific content needs.

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform essential functions of the job.
  • High-level of taste and visual aesthetics with strong art direction capabilities.
  • Visual literacy and a passionate interest in fashion, seasonal trends and fashion editorials.
  • Detail-oriented, team player with creative problem solving and excellent communication skills.
  • Flexibility & Time Management: ability to multi-task, prioritize workload and take responsibility for campaign deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate creative vision effectively to photographers, stylists, and creative teams.
  • Strong understanding of social-first content creation, platform aesthetics, and how to balance organic storytelling with commercial brand objectives.
  • Strong command of visual composition, lighting direction, styling coordination, and brand storytelling.
  • Proficiency with Adobe CC, with emphasis on photography workflow and brand content creation.
  • Understanding of photography production workflows, lighting techniques, and post-production processes.

Salary Range: $136,000.00 - $175,500.00

The base salary offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region of work premises, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.  The base salary is just one component of J.Crew Group’s competitive total rewards strategy that also includes the opportunity for bonus, competitive benefits and perks.
