POSITION SUMMARY
DuBois Chemicals is seeking an experienced, high-level Area Sales Manager based in Calgary, Alberta (local candidates required) to drive growth within the specialty chemicals market in Western Canada. This role is responsible for leading a regional sales team, executing strategic growth plans, and supporting customers through a consultative, value-driven approach.
The Area Sales Manager will build strong customer relationships at all organizational levels, sustain and expand key accounts, and develop a robust pipeline of new business opportunities. In addition to coaching and managing the team, this role includes direct sales responsibilities, with a specific focus on driving growth in our custom-blend chemical business.
Success in this role requires strong collaboration with internal departments, disciplined sales execution, and a demonstrated ability to exceed performance expectations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Development
Lead, motivate, and mentor a team of inside and outside sales representatives, providing coaching, performance management, and development.
Maintain sales discipline within the team, ensuring consistent execution of account plans, opportunity management, and forecasting.
Direct Sales Responsibilities
Carry a personal sales quota, including direct ownership of custom-blend business development, from lead generation through close.
Manage assigned key accounts, conduct customer business reviews, and develop tailored solutions.
Growth & Territory Strategy
Develop and implement regional sales strategies to achieve revenue and profitability goals.
Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify growth opportunities and new customer targets.
Drive new business creation through prospecting, networking, and relationship development.
Customer & Account Management
Build and sustain strong relationships with key customers and stakeholders.
Manage corporate product portfolio penetration at existing sites and identify new application opportunities.
Negotiate pricing, terms, freight, and contracts for both existing and new accounts.
Sales Operational Excellence
Monitor, analyze, and report on sales performance, trends, and competitor activities.
Lead territory-level marketing initiatives including applications development, target customer identification, and trade show participation.
Oversee the territory budget, including travel and team expenses.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align strategy, resolve issues, and support customer needs.
Travel within Western Canada to support team members and customer engagements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, chemical engineering, or related field.
4+ years of specialty chemical sales experience, with a track record of achieving or exceeding targets.
Demonstrated ability to manage a territory and lead a sales team effectively.
Strong consultative selling skills, including negotiation, problem-solving, and presenting technical value.
Experience managing key accounts and developing new business.
Ability to interpret sales data, identify trends, and develop actionable strategies.
High achievement orientation with a strong drive to perform and grow.
Ability to learn new product lines and articulate technical value to customers.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with keen attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM tools, and Power BI.
Ability to travel occasionally for out-of-town customer visits and internal meetings.
Must reside in Calgary or the surrounding area.
