Area Manager - 1st Shift

C.H. Robinson is seeking an Area Manager to join our Plainfield, IN Warehouse.  In this role you will be responsible for maintaining optimum productivity levels and cost of services provided to C.H. Robinson branch customers. You will supervise all day-to-day functions of warehouse operations execution associated with inbound receiving, outbound shipping, quality control, production, maintenance, and sanitation. This position directly oversees inbound receiving, outbound shipping, production, inventory, quality, leads and their respective crews.

This is a 1st shift position (7:00am – 3:30pm) on-site 5 days per week at our Plainfield, IN warehouse.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of this position consists of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Educate Distribution Center staff on Distribution Center Model vision, guiding principles, and strategy

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of fresh supply inventory, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing productivity

  • Maintain appropriate metrics evaluating operational and economic performance in the areas of receiving, shipping, inventory, production, and all service level offerings

  • Ensure all customer service metrics are consistently met or exceeded

  • Ensure receiving, shipping, inventory and production crews deliver product within specified quality, condition, and food safety protocols

  • Operate in an efficient/cost conscious manner so that all budgeted objectives are achieved

  • Review all equipment preventative maintenance schedules and work orders

  • Ensure safety and sanitation schedules that ensure the facilities compliance with HAACP, OSHA and Primus Inspection Standards are completed

  • Reinforce a culture of safety throughout the facility by following safety policies and procedures

  • Communicate clearly and concisely with all audiences; keep others informed and listens carefully to input and feedback

  • Work with Distribution Center leadership staff to execute standard operating procedures designed to ensure all facility services are accurately documented and consistently executed

  • Ensure safe and efficient use and maintenance of facility equipment

  • Reinforce safety and sanitation schedules that ensure the facilities compliance with corporate, OSHA and Food Safety standards"

  • Monitor supplies, packaging, and raw materials needed to operate business on daily basis

  • Identify areas for improvement and make recommendations, including using metrics to identify areas for improvement

  • Root cause problem solving to drive process improvement

Team Leadership:

  • Ensure distribution center crews operate in an efficient, productive, accurate and professional

  • Maintain proper staffing levels, staff schedules, oversee hourly staff training; Plan needs based on projected projects and volume; Deliver timely performance feedback and corrective suggestions/actions to both staff and customer account teams

  • Maintain a constant presence in the work area to support and lead warehouse staff; Provide a safe work environment for all areas of operations; develop and maintain a positive and collaborative work environment

  • Ensure integrity and discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information

  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, promotion, and alignment of qualified and diverse talent

  • Support the annual merit and equity programs for assigned team to align compensation with performance results

  • Outline employee role accountabilities and expectations; manages performance to drive the right behaviors and improve results and provides useful real-time coaching, development activities and stretch assignments; supports employees with problem resolution

  • Develop people to meet both their career goals and the organization's goals

  • Encourage employee feedback through formal and informal channels.  Work with next level manager to acknowledge and take action on feedback to drive a trusting culture of open two-way communication, inclusivity, collaboration and continuous improvement

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a warehouse, distribution center, and/or manufacturing operations environment

  • Knowledge of efficient and safe warehousing practices

  • Basic computer skills

  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50lbs

  • Ability to work all day in a temperature-controlled environment (as low as 35 degrees)

Preferred:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Previous supervisory experience

  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate information and/or instructions

  • Delivers detail oriented, accurate and organized results under pressure 

  • Demonstrates the desire to operate in an entrepreneurial, multi-task environment

Compensation Range

$52,500.00 - $83,100.00
