Area Director, Extended Stay Franchise Performance

JOB SUMMARY:

The Area Director, Extended Stay Franchise Performance serves as a strategic advisor to franchise owners and operators, driving performance across financial results, guest experience, and operational execution. This remote-based role supports the Suburban and Mainstay brands, with a focus on implementing extended stay best practices and ensuring consistent execution of the operating model. The position requires extensive travel (approximately 70%) and collaboration across departments including revenue management, sales, and brand operations. The role is an individual contributor reporting to the Senior Regional Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct property visits and deliver strategic consultations to improve financial performance, guest satisfaction, and operational execution.

  • Ensure consistent implementation of the extended stay operating model, emphasizing occupancy discipline, cost control, and efficiency.

  • Monitor and analyze performance metrics including ALOS, RevPAR Index, EssOcc, and guest satisfaction to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Partner with internal teams (Revenue Management, Sales, Distribution) to optimize local demand generation and revenue strategies.

  • Activate proprietary programs that enhance profitability, including labor efficiency tools, procurement resources, and distribution optimization.

  • Utilize tools such as CoSTAR, Medallia, Salesforce, Tableau, HotStats, Co-Pilot, and BI platforms to deliver data-driven insights.

  • Maintain proactive communication with owners and operators, documenting consultation outcomes and ensuring accountability.

  • Represent Choice Hotels at extended stay industry events and share market insights to support strategic initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Employment Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of progressive hotel operations experience, preferably in extended stay, economy, or midscale segments.

  • At least 10 years of hotel leadership experience, ideally with multi-unit or franchise performance oversight.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, Tableau, and other business intelligence platforms.

  • Expertise in performance management tools and forecasting systems.

Additional Skills & Competencies

  • Strong strategic advisory and consulting skills.

  • Proven ability to influence performance improvement and drive adoption of best practices.

  • Excellent time management, project coordination, and persuasive communication.

  • Adaptability and change management experience in a matrixed organization.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management, Business Management, Marketing, or related field required; MBA preferred.

  • Or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

SALARY RANGE:

The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $100,000 annually. In addition to the annual salary, this role is eligible for an annual bonus based on the terms of Choice's Management Incentive Plan (MIP). 

The pay range listed is for this position and is what Choice Hotels reasonably expects to pay. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the pay range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. 

WORK LOCATION:

As our Area Director, Extended Stay Franchise Performance, you will be a remote-based associate working from your home office. You will connect virtually with Choice team members and leadership via Zoom and periodically travel to our corporate offices in North Bethesda, MD, or Scottsdale, AZ. Frequent nationwide travel (70%) will be required to visit hotels, trade shows, conventions, and industry events.
