The Opportunity 

The Hunt Library at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) invites applicants to join a dynamic team serving a diverse population of residential and online students, faculty, staff, and outside researchers. 

This position manages digital assets for the University Archives and the Hunt Library’s Special Collections. You will collaborate with the Archives Librarian to develop workflows for processing, preserving, and managing born-digital and hybrid collections. 

Responsibilities include digitizing textual and image materials using flatbed and large-format imaging equipment and related software; arranging and describing electronic records; running scripts to enhance and update metadata in hosting and preservation platforms; and supporting the implementation and ongoing maintenance of ArchivesSpace.

The successful candidate will join the Hunt Library https://huntlibrary.erau.edu, serving Daytona Beach, Prescott, and Worldwide Campuses, working regular business hours. Responsibilities:

  • Manage large-scale imagining production projects 
  • Perform data entry and create metadata for digitized and born-digital records 
  • Ingest digitized and born-digital records into digital preservation systems using JSTOR tools and prepared Python scripts 
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records in the archive database 
  • Create/maintain documentation of policies and procedures for the Special Collections and Archives department 
  • Increase accessibility of collections by assigning subject headings and keywords, adding terms and access points to records, resolving indexing inconsistencies, and reviewing existing descriptive information.   
  • Plan future digitization projects and meet established technical and descriptive requirements   
  • Participate in archives and library projects, initiatives, and outreach activities, such as the preparation of exhibits and displays featuring archival materials 
  • Work with Archives Librarian to recreate past curated exhibits/events using digital exhibit platform 
  • Work with student assistants, under the direction of the Archives Librarian 
  • Occasional work with donors or Philanthropy staff members, under the direction of the Archives Librarian
  • All other relevant duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree

Required Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience working in a library, archives, historical society or comparable environment  
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize projects
  • Must be able to work independently with moderate to minimal guidance, and collaborate successfully with coworkers on large projects  
  • Must have strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills, oral and written 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of technology applications typical in a modern office and library environment (e.g.: Microsoft Office and Adobe suite)  
  • Demonstrated skills in a variety of appropriate digital tools and/or computer software programs used in an archives and special collections context (e.g.: CONTENTdm, ArchivEra, ArchivesSpace, Alma)
  • Experience with scanning and editing equipment; relational databases; xml; and the ability to learn new tools quickly

Physical Demands:  

Moderate lifting up to 40 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach. 

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a university campus environment. This position will be responsible for performing job duties across two separate work locations at both the Hunt Library and University Archives storage and collections areas.
