Edwards-Pitman is seeking an Archaeology Field Director for projects in the southeastern United States, primarily in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
Responsibilities will include project direction (including fieldwork and travel), oversight of field crews, producing quality reports, and managing multiple projects. Must meet Secretary of the Interior’s minimum qualifications for work as an archaeologist.
Responsibilities:
- While under the supervision of a Principal Investigator and/or Project Manager, oversee/manage field portions of projects, including crew management, accommodations arrangements, disbursement and tracking of crew per diem, and leading daily safety meetings
- Assist with training field staff
- Perform/oversee tasks associated with Phase I, II, and II projects, including shovel testing, excavation, photography, identification of artifacts, and site/feature (surface and subsurface)/survey documentation
- While under the supervision of a Principal Investigator and/or Project Manager, contribute to technical reports and conduct QAQC of project deliverables
- Follow company schedules, due dates, procedures, and policies
- Maintain a field equipment inventory with maintenance needs
- Maintain Company Vehicle care, maintenance, and records
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must meet Secretary of the Interior’s minimum qualifications for work as an archaeologist.
- A master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field
- Familiar with federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines for cultural resources
- One year of professional experience leading field portions of cultural resource projects/surveys
- Ability to perform strenuous work in various environmental conditions as well as lift and carry 50 lbs
- Ability to work in a team-based environment both in the field and in a virtual office space
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA)
- Three or more years of professional experience leading field portions of cultural resource projects/surveys
- Experience with ESRI ArcPro

Compensation Range:
$55,000.00 - $82,000.00
