Aquatics Maintenance Worker

Maintains City facilities, pools and splash pads to a high standard of safety and attractiveness by performing the following tasks: pool maintenance, restroom maintenance, pool equipment maintenance and repair, backwashing, cleaning pools, and adjusting pool chemicals.

The job description does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Monitors, diagnoses, and troubleshoots aquatic chemical systems, pumps, motors, play structures, tile, and plaster; performs repairs and general maintenance as needed

  • Inspects, cleans, repairs, paints and maintains tools, equipment, facilities and pool systems

  • Maintains a schedule of routine and preventative maintenance activities

  • Performs manual labor and skilled tasks related to equipment operation, including locating and repairing water lines and maintaining aquatic pool infrastructure.

  • Orders repair parts, maintains an accurate parts inventory, and manage repair schedules and records for equipment; completes errands for chemicals and supplies as needed

  • Ensures timely completion of work orders and maintains required records and reports

  • Performs maintenance and repairs safely, efficiently, and cost efficiently, adhering to industry standards and manufacturer specifications

  • Help train staff in pool operations and chemical handling and safety, oversees seasonal staff assigned to assist with maintenance task.

  • Consults with customers as needed to address service issues

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, training and Experience Guidelines

High school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months’ experience in pool maintenance. Experience in facility maintenance and the ability to perform minor repairs, or any equivalent combination of experience and education

Knowledge of:

  • Methods, tools and equipment used in water safety and aquatic training operations.

  • Modern and complex principles and practices of pool facility operations and maintenance, including proper water chemistry levels.

  • Routine and preventative aquatic maintenance activities

  • Pool chemistry, aquatic pumps, chemical systems, motors and general maintenance

  • Customer service practices and techniques.

  • Occupational health and safety regulations and procedures.

  • City policies and procedures.

Skill in:

  • Interpreting and explaining City aquatics program policies and procedures.

  • Managing pool maintenance tasks individually

  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

  • Resolving customer complaints and concerns.

  • Reading memos, daily instructions and policies.

  • Interpreting and applying aquatic policies. 

  • Communicating with external vendors to schedule repairs as needed.

  • Conflict resolution, critical thinking and problem solving.

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.

  • CPO/APO certification or the ability to obtain certifications within 6 months

  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION PREFERRED 

  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP)

  • Certified Parks and Recreation Executive (CPRE)

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)  

  • Certified Maintenance Specialist (CMS)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

 Standing/walking, sitting, lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, crouching, kneeling, bending, climbing/balancing, twisting, vision, speaking, use of foot controls.

Environmental Factors and Safety Hazards

 Exposure to weather extremes, especially the sun. Exposed to pool chemicals.  


Other Requirements

Weekend work required.

Hiring Range: $19.29 - $24.17, hourly.
