Graduate from an accredited nursing program with at least a Master’s in Nursing.
National Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. Certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in acute care.
PA:
Graduate from an accredited physician assistant program or eligible as defined by the Arkansas State Medical Board.
Current Arkansas Physician Assistant license or eligible for licensure.
Preferred Qualifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS).
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Responsibilities:
Obtains a relevant health and medical history, performs a physician examination, both focused and comprehensive, depending on patient needs, identifies health risks and needs, updates and records changes in health status, and assesses mental and functional status.
Formulates an appropriate differential diagnosis based on history, physical exam, and clinical findings, and identifies the needs of the individual and family as a result of the patient interview (history) and physical exam. Will be included in the Orthopaedic after-hours call rotation.
Provides an acceptable plan of care that maximizes the patient’s health potential and takes into account: ordering of appropriate diagnostic tests, identifying and prescribing appropriate pharmacologic agents when needed, and identifying and planning non-pharmacologic interventions when appropriate, and develops a plan for education of the patient and their family or caregiver.
Consults with physicians and other health professionals when needed.
Plans are based on established priorities and include: accurately conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmacologic agents under prescriptive protocols, providing relevant and timely patient and caregiver education, and making appropriate referrals to other health professionals.
Follows up on the client by phone calls, rounds, scheduled visits, and lab results.
Facilitates patient participation and self-care when able, and provides information to patients and families in order for them to make decisions and choices about their health care.
Promotes optimal health of the patient by including preventive and health promotion activities into the plan of care, participates in clinical pathway development and quality management activities.
Participates as a team member in patient care conferences with other health disciplines and uses a team approach to the provision of care.
Participates in clinical case conferences and other department and campus meetings as appropriate.
Responsible for appropriate documentation and billing notations for care that is given.
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist the physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
Record the normal and abnormal data for review by the physician.
Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the data in the patient's record.
Write progress notes and narrative discharge summaries.
Prepare patient workups and summaries, noting pertinent positive and negative findings.
Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
Carry out therapeutic procedures such as cast application and removal, wound suturing and dressing changes; monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of each patient's progress.
Participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by the supervising physician; prepare statistical reports and analyses setting forth.
Perform other duties as assigned.
