SUMMARY
The Apprentice Engineer will be responsible for participating and implementing maintenance programs aimed at maintaining a zero-defect environment for guests. This role will inspect, maintain, and repair all mechanical, electrical, and other equipment used by the guests or affecting the quality of the guest experience while visiting the property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
• Create a safe, attractive and functioning environment for guests and associates by ensuring the hotel is maintained in accordance with safety standards
• Complete hotel room and building repairs such as replacing ceiling tiles, filters, light bulbs,
patching vinyl, and painting; perform repairs on toilets, sinks, laundry facilities, kitchen and other hotel property items
• Participate in completing routine and preventative maintenance and renovations to ensure that building systems operate efficiently; coordinate work with hotel department managers to minimize disruptions
• Maintain safety and cleanliness of the exterior of the hotel, grounds, pool and exercise room
• Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work, and adhere to budget standards set for the hotel per Chief Engineer
• Ensure hotel adheres to all regulatory and safety standards by meeting with government and
insurance inspectors and taking corrective action as needed
• Keep all mechanical and electrical up to date
• Respond to house calls immediately
• Escalate requests that cannot be fixed immediately
• Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a hotel or apartment environment
• Knowledge of basic electrical and plumbing maintenance; experience using general maintenance tools
• Working knowledge of operating hand and power tools
• Knowledge of safe and efficient operation of tools and equipment
• Ability to troubleshoot issues with painting, HVAC, and carpentry
• HVAC certification preferred
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
• Ability to communicate clearly and speak, read, write and understand English
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions; interpret diagrams and schedules
• Ability to work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Luxury hotel experience strongly preferred
• Certification from Technical Maintenance Trade School
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and various property specific software applications, HotSOS, and Energy Management Systems software
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Position requires walking and giving direction most of the working day; must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 6 hours in length. Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis. Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill tasks. Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment. Some tasks are performed outdoors in variable weather conditions, including hot, cold, windy and wet weather.
The pay for Apprentice Engineer is $18.25 hourly. The pay scale is the base hourly pay, exclusive of incentive pay such as commissions, piece rates, gratuities, and the like, that Pendry reasonably expects to pay for the position.
