MAIN OBJECTIVES
Programme of learning will consist of day release to Chichester University for a degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering (BEng). This study pathway integrates academic learning with hands-on workplace experience, contributing to projects alongside experienced engineers as well as leading independent projects with dedicated support. In the workplace, the Apprentice Development Engineer will spend the first 12 months rotating through each department to develop a broad understanding of all areas of the business. After completing these rotations, their time on site will be dedicated to the Engineering department. During the workplace element, the candidate is expected to develop professional relationships and a good teamworking ethic with colleagues, along with learning the systems and processes of Spellman and its industry.
DUTIES
Assist Project Engineers in the design and development of high voltage power supplies.
Undertake responsibility for verification and validation testing.
Under the guidance of the Project Engineer, perform testing of prototype and pre-production units.
Assist in the creation and maintenance of design and project documentation.
Undertake or assist in the design, development and commissioning of test apparatus and equipment.
As an apprentice you will learn from experienced Design Engineers, to understand how we Design and Test our systems.
KEY RESONSIBILTIES
Study the Degree course on day release and in own time in order to achieve a successful outcome with qualification. Maintain a minimum 2.2 grade average and minimum attendance of >90%.
Application of learning in the workplace in order to demonstrate the learning and knowledge gained.
Through on the job and University learning develop their scientific knowledge, practical skills and the techniques required to become a professional Electronic Development Engineer.
Complete workplace projects in accordance with qualification requirements.
Attending regular monitoring review meetings with appointed training officer from Chichester University.
Applying a conscientious attitude in the workplace, contributing to both specific projects and the departmental goals and objectives.
Become familiar with and work safely with precision high voltage power conversion products and associated equipment.
Ensure familiarisation and adherence to the Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety management systems including workmanship standards, static handling precautions and high voltage control measures.
Responsibility for adhering to the Company’s ISO 9001 Quality, ISO14001 Environmental and Health and Safety management systems.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Three A- Levels achieved or predicted, A* - C or 9-4 (including Mathematics and Science) or equivalent.
Secured placement with Chichester University as part of the apprenticeship
A fast learner with strong logical and analytical skills, applying a thorough and methodical approach to problem-solving.
Self-motivated with the ability to work well with others.
IT proficient, with the ability to learn new systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
A keen interest in Engineering Design and Electronics.
