Applications Engineer

Job Description:

The application engineer will work in the department responsible for sizing, specification, selection, and general layout design of separation technologies utilized in the transportation, processing, refining and produced water markets, serving the oil and gas industry. The portfolio of filtration and separations solutions includes consumables and capital equipment as applicable to the clients need. Equipment includes standalone solutions, semi integrated solutions (equipment, valves and instrumentation), or as fully integrated packaged equipment (equipment, skid frame and supports, instrumentation, valves, controls, and piping). Although the conceptual design of the equipment will be determined by the application engineer, formal equipment & piping design will be in accordance with the applicable ASME code and Pentair’s design guidelines. The engineer is responsible for conducting design reviews in partnership with Pentair’s third party supply chain.  The Application Engineer will have 4 main functions; technical and commercial proposals, technical project support, conceptual design, technical support to rental program as described below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 

Technical & Commercial Proposal Development

  • Review customer requirements  project specifications, and application information to determine the best technology for the project
  • Use Pentair proprietary sizing programs to determine application specific product information, generate guidelines and data sheets for general vessel design
  • Specify instrumentation when required according to customer specification and requirements
  • Create project P&IDs
  • Obtain quotes from approved vendors and vessel fabricators to develop project cost packages
  • Lead project discovery meetings and develop commercial proposals in coordination with regional sales account manager

Technical Project Support

  • Review purchased project scope of supply aligns with proposal scope of supply
  • Coordinate development of project deliverables for internal and external stakeholders
  • Generate supporting engineering related documentation effecting order initiation for project management team
  • Mitigate scope of supply issues and project changes
  • Develop submittal documentation within Pentair scope
  • Review project drawing submittals along with final document and data packages
  • Work with project team including project managers and program managers to ensure a quality product is delivered on time and within budget

Conceptual Design

Participate in process and design improvements for Pentair’s product line including:

  • Product Standardization/Rationalization
  • Engineering workflow
  • Engineering & Design Review Processes
  • Cost avoidance
  • Productivity/performance improvements
  • Identify and introduce potential complimentary technologies for market sales growth initiatives

Technical Support to Rental Program

  • Supports technical aspects of the rental fleet, prepares purchasing document packages for new CERs, and serves as a backup resource that will be capable of coordinating/executing against client rental orders.

Job Requirements & Skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • Self-motivated, and able to produce high quality results within time and budget constraints
  • Experience in technical writing
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to muti-task in proposal, project & design engineering disciplines concurrently
  • Works efficiently with minimal supervision
  • BS in Mechanical and/or Chemical Engineering or demonstrated experience
  • Familiarity with API, ASME, ANSI codes
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting technical drawings & specifications
  • Proficient with MS Office suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
