Position Summary

The Application Engineer (Electrical) is responsible for providing deep systems engineering expertise across product and system design, integration and verification activities. This role focuses on systems design integration, requirement definition, technical analysis and problem resolution across electrical and multi-disciplinary systems.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders, customers and extended engineering teams to ensure products, systems and sub-systems meet defined functional, physical and regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle.


What you will be doing:

  • Apply strong understanding of gas turbine product operation, product systems, sub-systems and their interactions, with ownership of system interfaces and integration activities
  • Design and integrate systems using Systems Engineering principles, including the application of robust design tools and techniques to achieve optimal product and sub-system solutions
  • Lead and own problem resolution activities, including root cause investigations, problem reports, Red Tops, Safety Alert Reports (SARs), Quality Concerns, Major Quality Investigations (MQIs) and Drawing Alteration Requests (DARs), managing ambiguity where required
  • Define, manage and flow down system-level requirements, ensuring traceability across products, systems and components
  • Plan and manage product changes, technical design approvals and technical investigations in line with governance requirements
  • Perform technical analysis to support system performance, integrity and compliance
  • Verify that systems meet defined requirements and take ownership of standardization and verification reports
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, and influence at all levels through clear technical presentations and discussions
  • Collaborate with and coordinate extended, multi-disciplinary teams that may not be co-located

Position requirements:

Education / Work Experience / Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or a regional equivalent qualification, or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies, with a solid understanding of cross-disciplinary engineering concepts including manufacturing engineering, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, thermal and mechanical analysis, cost engineering and product definition
  • Demonstrated ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking to complex technical problems, balancing technical and business considerations
  • Knowledge and experience in product integrity, liability and certification frameworks
  • Experience working within structured Systems Engineering environments across the product lifecycle
  • Membership of a relevant professional engineering body is preferred; in the UK, attainment of our progress toward Chartered status is advantageous (or equivalent regional variations)
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively
