Marshfield Medical Center is seeking an ENT Surgical Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team in Marshfield, Wisconsin. The APC will play a vital role in providing comprehensive care within our Otolaryngology (ENT) department. This position combines both outpatient clinic services and surgical first-assist responsibilities. The APC will collaborate closely with ENT physicians, audiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care across a wide range of ear, nose, throat, head, and neck conditions. You will also be included in a call rotation.

Department Details

Clinical Duties (Outpatient & Procedural):

Perform patient evaluations, including detailed history-taking, physical examinations, and ordering/interpretation of diagnostic tests.
Diagnose and manage acute and chronic ENT conditions in accordance with established clinical guidelines.
Provide pre-operative and post-operative assessments and education.
Conduct minor in-office procedures (e.g., cerumen removal, nasal cautery, flexible laryngoscopy, foreign body removal) as credentialed.
Collaborate with physicians to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, medications, and preventive care.
Surgical First Assist Duties:

Serve as first assist in the operating room for a variety of ENT surgeries, including but not limited to tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, sinus surgery, ear surgery, thyroid/parathyroid surgery, and head & neck procedures.
Assist with intraoperative tasks such as tissue handling, suturing, hemostasis, and instrument handling under physician direction.
Prepare patients for surgery, including site verification and consent review.
Support post-operative recovery and coordinate follow-up care.

Summary

The Otolaryngology Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care for patients with disorders of the ear, nose, throat, head, and neck. The NP works in collaboration with otolaryngologists and the multidisciplinary team to perform assessments, manage medical and surgical treatments, and provide patient education.

Job Description

Perform detailed patient histories and physical examinations focused on ENT disorders. Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests such as audiograms, CT/MRI scans, and lab work. Assist in the management of acute and chronic ENT conditions, including infections, allergies, voice and swallowing disorders, and head and neck cancers. Provide preoperative and postoperative care for ENT surgical patients. Manage medication therapy, including antibiotics, steroids, and other relevant treatments. Conduct minor procedures within scope of practice, such as ear debridement, nasal endoscopy, and laryngoscopy. Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment plans, and preventive care. Document clinical encounters thoroughly and maintain accurate medical records. Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.

Experience in otolaryngology, ENT, or related fields preferred.

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. State Controlled Substance License (if required by State) National board certification as a Family (NP-C) or (FNP-BC). Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP), Adult (ANP-C), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC) Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
