The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is a skilled member of the health team who provides medical and educational services to patients under the supervision of a licensed physician, according to Nurse Practitioner/PA Protocol, and within the scope of the Nurse Practitioner/PA License in the State of Wisconsin. This individual works within a cooperative department, utilizing team effort with health care providers, co-workers, and the public to provide positive patient interaction.Summary
The Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to patients presenting with a wide range of acute, urgent, and emergent medical conditions in the Emergency Department. The NP works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver efficient, high-quality, patient-centered care.Job Description
Perform comprehensive patient assessments including history, physical examination, and diagnostic testing. Diagnose and treat acute illnesses and injuries such as fractures, infections, cardiac events, respiratory distress, trauma, and other emergent conditions. Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic tests such as labs, EKGs, imaging studies, and monitor patient progress. Develop and implement treatment plans, including medication prescriptions, procedures, and referrals to specialists as necessary. Provide wound care, suturing, splinting, and other emergency procedures within NP scope of practice. Stabilize patients in critical condition and initiate emergency interventions as appropriate. Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, follow-up care, and preventive health. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR). Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and regulatory standards. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care and disposition decisions (admission, discharge, or transfer). Stay current with emergency medicine best practices and continuing education requirements.Qualifications
Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.Sanford is an EEO/AA Employer M/F/Disability/Vet.
