The API Architect is responsible for the technical design and overall architecture of the Moneris API platform. In concert with site reliability engineering, owns the technical implementation of the API development life cycle and the central API support services. Collaborates with other technology teams to design, develop and implement software systems and data solutions critical to Moneris' business operations Works with the team to define Moneris' API strategy, best practices, and standards. Performs research and development activities to advance platform technology including stakeholder interviews, proactive vendor assessments, and overall API infrastructure reviews to make determinations related to cloud partnership strategies. Ensures that the security, availability and technology strategy follows best practices and Moneris standards.

Location: You will be based in our Toronto office, balancing in-office collaboration with remote flexibility.

Reporting Relationship: You will report to the Senior Manager, Identity, Access and Secret Management

Posting Type: Replacement Position

Salary Range: $ $126,000 - $165,000.

Total compensation may also include variable or discretionary incentive components, including but not limited to bonuses and commissions. Individual job offers are determined by various factors, including experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs.

Your Moneris Career – What you’ll do

  • Create solutions which support current and foreseeable changes due to new technical or business requirements and where appropriate support reuse within and by other teams; have an enterprise and/or design and development focus

  • Create and maintain end-to-end solution architecture for API and backend applications (enterprise focus) and/or lead design and code development and provide input on the project delivery planning process (design and development focus).

  • Participate in the system specification review process to ensure system requirements can be translated into valid software architecture. Perform proof of concepts/prototypes, and recommend applications of such technologies to future product architectures

  • Provide input on vendor / third party product offering assessments and integrations into API platforms

  • Lead the end-to-end technical delivery of all API Implementation projects, including security, encryption, high availability, and scalability. Drive all aspects of development including requirements definition, design, implementation, unit testing, and integration. Hold code and design reviews while ensuring that all components are architecturally consistent

  • Develop and share best-practice knowledge. Author and contribute to customer-facing publications, whitepapers, technical case studies, and blog posts.

  • Provide architectural expertise and domain knowledge to the rest of the organization and develops more junior members on the team

  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure deliverables meet defined governance standards, and enterprise definitions as well as alignment with the API strategy framework

  • Work closely with the development teams to demonstrate engineering methods and socialize feedback to ensure needs are met

Your Moneris Career – What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred in Software Engineering, Computer Science; or equivalent work experience in a Technology or business environment

  • 7+ years of experience working in large scale software development, design, business intelligence environments, and/or data architecture environments.  Full proficiency with multiple programming languages and/or database management and modelling.   

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing API and/or backend applications (.NET, Java or Node preferred)

  • 4+ years of experience working with API's and/or backend applications.

  • 2+ years of experience with cloud-based solutions (Azure preferably)

  • Experience with NoSQL databases (Redis, MongoDB and Cosmos DB preferably) and some experience with relational DBMS

  • Experience with API Security, encryption, caching, LINQ, JSON manipulation, and other modern API programming idioms.

  • Experience working with DevOps pipelines (Git, Maven, Gitlab, Jenkins), continuous integration/delivery, automated testing (unit, functional, performance)

  • credentials are an asset.
