Job Description
Albemarle is looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Logistics Safety Leader to join our team in the APAC region. This position will report to the Global Logistics Safety & Security Director.
What You Will Do
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safety and compliance across all logistics operations, including transportation, warehousing, ISO tanks, and cylinders within the region. This multifaceted role requires a proactive approach to safety management, ensuring adherence to international, regional and national regulations for the safe transportation of chemical products, especially hazardous chemicals. Key responsibilities include responding to emergency calls, developing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments for our logistics service providers (LSPs), and providing training to maintain a high level of logistics safety awareness within the organization. The role also involves upholding the highest standards of safety in all logistics operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance: In-depth understanding of national and international regulations (i.e. OSHA, DOT, GHS, and REACH) for the transportation and warehouse handling for chemical products especially hazardous chemicals, including but not limited to China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Singapore.
Safety Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive risk assessments and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure the safe transport and storage of various chemical products. Experienced in helping the update and the maintenance of Albemarle safety protocols and procedures to ensure compliance and safety across all logistics operations.
Incidents Management: Oversee and investigate safety incidents, conducting thorough root-cause analyses to identify underlying issues. Develop and implement appropriate corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Ensure all incidents are properly documented, and corrective measures are effectively executed. Draft detailed incident reports as needed. Build and maintain business relationships with regional and in country ER providers as well as with local regulatory authorities.
Equipment Compliance: Ensure all equipment complies with legal requirements including registrations and permits. Regularly audit the registrations and permits for the operation and transportation of portable tanks and cylinders, conducting inspections to verify that equipment staying in the warehouses meets safety standards and regulatory requirements. This includes checking for wear and tear, corrosion, and other potential issues that could compromise safety. Keeping detailed records of all inspections, maintenance activities, and compliance checks. This documentation should be readily available for review by regulatory authorities and Albemarle management.
Vendor Safety Management: Socialize existing standardized safety procedures for managing warehouse and transportation vendors. Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions to ensure compliance and enhance safety practices. Monitor vendor safety performance against designated KPIs, and continuously work on improving the safety mindset of all vendors.
Training and Education: Provide basic training and education to employees on safety procedures and regulatory requirements. Enhance their awareness of proper escalation protocols and immediate responses to safety incidents. Ensure employees understand the fundamental "DOs and DON'Ts" of hazardous logistics regulations.
Collaboration: Maintain close collaboration with Logistics Safety team members, local safety authorities and consulting firms to stay informed about regulatory changes and industry best practices. Partner with the regional operations team to understand business needs and provide expert safety solutions. Engage with external logistics partners to implement and enforce safety-related plans and actions.
What You Bring
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Occupational Health and Safety, Logistics, or a related field.
Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in logistics safety or EHS, preferably within the APAC region, Basic chemical knowledge is a MUST.
Certification as a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor
Strong knowledge of regional and national regulations for the carriage and storage of hazardous chemicals, experience with fleet (Portable tanks, Cylinders) is essential.
Excellent communication and training skills.
Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and safety audits.
Preferred:
Experience in the chemical or logistics industry.
Multilingual abilities, particularly in languages spoken in the APAC region as well as English.
