APAC Cash Equities Post-Trade SME / Python Engineer 6-month Contract

Hong Kong Full Time

Job Purpose:

BTIG is seeking a talented Hong Kong-based applicant to join our team for 6-months to help deliver and harden new settlement and OMS (Order Management System) workflows. The platform is a Python-based service that generates, validates, transmits, and reconciles settlement output and related internal workflow artefacts. This role is functionally led but technically hands-on. You should be able to reason clearly about allocations, executions, settlement, transmission, and reconciliation, and then turn that understanding into reliable Python changes in a production codebase.

You will work with the existing engineering team split between Hong Kong and Sydney, along with relevant middle-office and operations stakeholders. You can expect:

  • Direct collaboration with engineers for technical design and code review.
  • Exposure to operations and workflow stakeholders so business rules can be clarified quickly.
  • Practical exposure to a team workflow that makes regular use of GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted development techniques.
  • Regular check-ins on progress, blockers, and priorities during the 6-month term.

You will also join a team that is making serious use of GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted software development in day-to-day engineering. If you want to build practical skills in AI-assisted coding, code review, refactoring, and developer workflow in a real production setting, this role gives you that opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Automate and streamline Operations daily settlement and order management feeds to Finance (straight-through processing).
  • Deliver Python changes across transformation, filtering, merge, finalisation, persistence, transmission, and reconciliation logic.
  • Work through workflow issues that cut across code, data, reference mappings, and operational process.
  • Partner with engineering, middle office, and operations users to clarify business rules, exceptions, and edge cases.
  • Investigate discrepancies between expected and actual settlement outputs and help drive root-cause resolution.

Requirements:

Functional / Domain

  • Solid understanding of cash equities post-trade workflows.
  • Good grasp of allocations, executions, settlement dates, settlement-sensitive logic, and downstream operational impacts.
  • Ability to translate partially defined business rules into deterministic system behavior and test cases.
  • Comfort working with operations users on breaks, reconciliations, and exception scenarios.

Technical

  • Demonstrable Python engineering experience in production systems.
  • Solid SQL and PostgreSQL skills.
  • Experience with pandas and core Python data-processing libraries.
  • Good automated testing discipline.
  • Experience using GitHub Copilot or similar AI-assisted engineering tools productively in day-to-day development.
  • Comfort working in Docker-based development environments.

Preferred

  • Experience with cash settlement, reconciliation, or file-based downstream interfaces.
  • Experience with OMS-fed and middle-office-fed capital markets processes.
  • Relevant experience typically gained through 2+ years in cash equities post-trade workflows, 3+ years Python development, and 2+ years working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar).
  • Familiarity with Fidessa, FIX (Financial Information Exchange) protocol, or similar platforms.

Important Notes:

  • Must be authorized to work full time in Hong Kong. BTIG does not offer sponsorship for work visas of any type.
  • Hybrid arrangements may be available depending on project phase and business needs.
