The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.

About the role 

As a AOD Peer Worker, this is your opportunity to works alongside the AOD team and other clinical staff to support and assist improving the wellbeing of people with substance use challenges who are engaged within The Salvation Army Eastern Bridge Program across residential and aftercare service streams.

Reporting to the Service Manager, this part-time role offers 15 hours per week and is contracted for 12 months, located in The Basin, VIC. 

How you will make an impact  

  • Provide respectful, strengths-based and non-judgemental recovery-oriented peer support using purposeful lived-experience disclosure to model recovery and instil hope in a safe and appropriate way.

  • Facilitate therapeutic and recovery-focused group programs and deliver one-to-one peer support in collaboration with AOD Practitioners and the multidisciplinary team in line with program guidelines.

  • Deliver time-limited structured bridging support to ex-participants to support step-down engagement and transition into aftercare pathways.

  • Maintain defined professional boundaries and deliver all support in accordance with risk management escalation and reporting procedures.

  • Contribute lived-experience feedback to service delivery program development and continuous improvement while participating in supervision reflective practice training professional development and complying with organisational policies procedures and legislative requirements.

What you will bring 

  • A Certificate IV (or four AOD competencies) required for AOD sector work.

  • Lived experience of substance use and recovery, with the ability to use this experience purposefully and safely in a peer role.

  • Knowledge of alcohol and other drug recovery pathways and relapse-prevention strategies.

  • Experience engaging people with complex needs within residential or community-based settings. 

  • Level 2 First Aid Certificate

  • A current VIC Drivers Licence and employee Working with Children’s Check

Conditions 

Compensation is in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award Level 2
