The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.

About the role

As an AOD Education Support Worker, this is your opportunity to provide education around AOD use and harm reduction through a flexible case management model to young people aged between 15-25 within Karratha. This model is underpinned by trauma-informed care.

Reporting to the Program Manager, this is a permanent, full-time position based in Karratha, WA.


How you will make an impact

  • Develop and deliver a safe and supportive AOD education and support programme

  • Undertake activities to achieve key outcomes of the AOD education and support programme

  • Actively build networks with specialist AOD and mental health services in the community and provide young people with warm referrals to these services as appropriate

  • Attend and complete all training and professional development opportunities through The Salvation Army and the Mental Health Commission pertaining to the role

  • Provide AOD information and resources to improve the knowledge and understanding of other internal staff, and where capacity allows, external service providers and the community

What you will bring

  • Minimum Certificate III in AOD, community services, youth work or similar (other relevant qualifications/lived experience within AOD, community services, youth work, social work or similar discipline will be considered).

  • Previous experience in case work or a similar role, providing case management to vulnerable young people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Previous experience in an AOD field is highly desirable.

  • A national police record check is required

  • A Working with Children Check is required

  • Departmental 395 check is required

  • Current WA Drivers Licence and the ability to travel in response to organisational needs. This requirement will continue for the duration of employment in this position.

  • Current First Aid Certificate is required
