What this job involves: 
The AFC Manager is an exciting opportunity to establish and lead JLL's new Anti-Financial Crime operations team in Costa Rica, reporting to the Head of AFC Operations. This role combines hands-on operational management with team building responsibilities as you launch this critical function from the ground up. You will build and manage the Costa Rica AFC team that supports global business lines through client and vendor screening operations, establishing daily operational processes while ensuring compliance with JLL's global AFC standards. This position offers the unique opportunity to shape a new team's culture and processes while contributing directly to JLL's global compliance objectives and strengthening our Anti-Financial Crime Compliance Program across global operations.
 

What your day-to-day will look like: 
• Establish and manage daily AFC screening operations including sanctions, AML and KYC screening processes
• Build the Costa Rica AFC team from startup through full operations, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and ongoing team development
• Conduct daily oversight of screening alerts, investigations, and case escalations while ensuring regulatory compliance and meeting service level agreements
• Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for new team members across sanctions, AML, and KYC compliance domains
• Monitor team performance metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency and accuracy
• Serve as primary escalation point for complex screening cases and provide guidance to team members on challenging matters
• Collaborate with the Gurugram CoE and global AFC teams to maintain operational consistency and share best practices
 

Required Qualifications: 
• Minimum 7 years of experience in AFC screening operations with demonstrated expertise in sanctions, AML, and KYC processes

• Minimun of 3 years of proven experience in team management and development, including hiring, training, and performance management
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, risk management or relevant field

• Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish)
• ACAMS certification (CAMS) required
• Working knowledge of sanctions regulatory frameworks and AML regulations
• Hands-on experience with screening platforms and case management systems (e.g., World Check One, Bridger, LexisNexis)
• Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities in a startup environment
 

Preferred Qualifications: 
• Advanced degree in relevant field
• Additional AFC-related certifications beyond CAMS
• Experience establishing or expanding operational teams in new locations
• Experience in commercial real estate or professional services
• Familiarity with global compliance standards and regulatory frameworks
 

Location: Belén, Heredia, Costa Rica (Onsite)
