An excellent opportunity is available for an Animal Technician to join the Bioservices Department at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.
About the Position
The Animal Technician will undertake tasks associated with the care, husbandry and maintenance of genetically manipulated mice in the facility. Tasks include basic mouse husbandry, breeding, cleaning of cages and equipment and record keeping. Observational skills must be particularly attuned to the health and welfare of the animals under their care. Additional duties may be to assist researchers with basic techniques such as tissue removal and basic injections.
Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Completion of High School (VCE)
Completed Diploma of Animal Technology (or equivalent)
Minimum of six months experience with mice in a research environment
Basic computer literacy
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to work individually and as a team
Motivated to make a difference in animal based medical research
Displays Institute values and eager to embrace Institute culture
Available to work on some rostered public holidays, institute holidays and weekends
Personal Qualities:
Conscientious
Excellent communication skills
Good observation skills and attention to detail
Flexible and cooperative
Terms of Appointment
This position is an ongoing role in a full-time capacity. Salary is Professional Services Employee Level 3 ($65,616 - $72,447). Very attractive salary packaging options are available for general living expenses, meal entertainment, novated leasing and more. 12% superannuation payable, plus up to a further 5% after the first 6 months of service via our matching superannuation scheme.
