Langara College Continuing Studies is seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the development of an Anatomy and Physiology micro-credential for healthcare administrative and health information professionals.

Working closely with the Program Coordinator and instructional development team, the SME will design and develop curriculum, learning activities, and assessments aligned with provincial health education standards and the needs of health office and healthcare professionals.

The successful candidate will contribute both content expertise and applied instructional design, ensuring that course materials are suitable for asynchronous online delivery through the Brightspace (D2L) learning management system.

This role focuses primarily on course development, with potential opportunities for future instructional roles once the program launches.


Job Description:

The successful candidate will: 

Curriculum Development 

  • Develop course curriculum, lesson plans, and learning materials for Anatomy and Physiology courses within a healthcare administrative context. 

  • Ensure alignment with Canadian healthcare practices, terminology standards, and health information competencies. 

  • Design learning outcomes, assessments, and instructional activities appropriate for adult learners in Continuing Studies. 

  • Integrate medical terminology and foundational anatomy concepts relevant to medical office and healthcare roles. 

Educational Technology & Online Learning 

  • Develop course content for online delivery using Brightspace (D2L). 

  • Create and organize course modules, learning activities, and assessments within the LMS. 

  • Incorporate digital learning tools such as: 

  • interactive quizzes 

  • case studies 

  • discussion forums 

  • multimedia learning resources 

  • Apply best practices in online pedagogy and accessibility. 

  • Ensure course materials meet Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and accessibility guidelines where applicable. 

Instructional Design Collaboration 

  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to ensure consistency across courses within the micro-credential. 

  • Select and adapt appropriate learning resources, textbooks, and open educational resources (OER). 

  • Develop assessment rubrics, quizzes, and assignments aligned with course learning outcomes. 

  • Review and revise materials based on program feedback and pilot implementation. 

Professional Responsibilities 

  • Maintain a comprehensive and current knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. 

  • Participate in meetings with the Program Coordinator and project team as required. 

  • Adhere to Langara College policies and procedures. 

  • Contribute to a collaborative and collegial curriculum development environment. 

 

Education & Experience / Required Qualifications 

  • Degree in a relevant health discipline, such as: 

  • Nursing (RN/LPN) 

  • Kinesiology 

  • Biomedical Sciences 

  • Health Sciences 

  • Medicine or related field 

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in healthcare or health sciences education. 

  • Demonstrated expertise in human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. 

  • Experience developing post-secondary curriculum or training materials

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience developing online or hybrid courses in higher education. 

  • Experience working with Brightspace (D2L) or other Learning Management Systems. 

  • Instructional design training or experience (e.g., Provincial Instructor Diploma (PID), instructional design certificate, or equivalent experience). 

  • Experience teaching adult learners in health-related programs. 

 

Skills & Abilities 

  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology in healthcare contexts. 

  • Experience designing curriculum aligned with competency-based education frameworks. 

  • Ability to design engaging online learning experiences. 

  • Strong written communication skills for academic and instructional materials. 

  • Ability to translate complex scientific concepts into accessible learning materials for diverse learners. 

  • Strong organizational and project management skills. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with program coordinators, instructors, and academic teams. 

Additional Information

 

Salary 
Compensation will follow the Continuing Studies instructional development rate structure. Hourly wage may vary depending on position or experience.

Scheduling 
Hours will vary according to project needs. Work will primarily involve curriculum development and online course design.
