The Role:

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is seeking an experienced Analytics Engineer to join our Data Storytelling & Insights team. This role bridges the gap between data engineering and analytics, building scalable, reliable, and well-modeled data for reporting, dashboards, and machine learning applications. In this role, you will create core data models and integrated views that bring together customer, product, and transactional data, ensuring a single source of truth for reporting and machine learning use cases.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement robust data models, including core data tables and 360-degree integrated views, for BI and ML consumption.
• Develop, test and maintain reliable ETL/ELT pipelines that cleans and transforms data using Dataform, ensuring data quality, consistency, and performance.
• Collaborate with engineers, analysts, data scientists, and stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
• Document transformation logic and optimize queries for efficiency, governance, and security so both technical and non-technical users can self serve.

The Skill Set:

Must-haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
• 5+ years in analytics engineering or data engineering, with solid understanding of ETL/ELT workflows.
• Expert SQL skills (window functions, nested data, handling arrays) and deep experience with data modeling (preferably medallion data model).
• Proficiency working with modern data warehouses like BigQuery (preferred) or Snowflake.
• Hands-on experience with Dataform (preferred) or dbt.
• Familiarity with Python for data processing and ML integration.
• Proficiency working in cloud experience with GCP preferred.
• Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to haves

• Familiarity with BI tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker, Domo).
• Experience with ML feature engineering and CI/CD for data pipelines.

At the time of posting, Rakuten expects the Compensation (base salary + discretionary bonus) for this role to be within the range shown below. Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location. The successful applicant for this role will be eligible for stock options, health, vision, dental insurance, RRSP matching, Personal Time Off (PTO), Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and other employee benefits as the company implements.
