In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.
This position is located in Preclinical Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Control (pCMC), a department within the Synthetic Molecule Research organization in pRED Therapeutic Modalities, where we pave, in a diverse, ambitious and innovative environment, the path to bring drug candidates from early research into development. We are CMC experts and build our strength on a broad diversity of technical expertise in chemistry, formulation design, material science and analytical chemistry, delivering and innovating in the space of small molecules, peptides and nucleic acid based medicines.
We offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced CMC professional to lead our Analytical Molecular Characterization (AMC) team while serving as a hands-on Mass Spectrometry (MS) subject matter expert. In this role, you will bridge discovery research and technical development, driving advanced analytical strategies to support our portfolio across the value chain.
You will lead a multidisciplinary team spanning NMR, MS, and chromatography, while developing and applying high-resolution MS methods for the characterization of synthetic molecules. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on scientific contribution, shaping both team direction and analytical excellence.
Your Responsibilities includes:
Leadership & Strategy
Lead and develop a team of analytical experts across MS, NMR, and chromatography
Define and execute mid- to long-term AMC strategies aligned with project and portfolio goals
Foster collaboration across discovery, technical development, and external partners
Analytical & Scientific Expertise
Develop and apply advanced high-resolution MS methods for structure elucidation and impurity characterization
Oversee complex analytical activities, including stereochemistry determination and interaction studies (API–excipient)
Drive analytical method development across SFC, HPLC, and GC for small molecules and peptides
Innovation & Collaboration
Partner with Data, Digital, and AI teams to advance data workflows, automation, and analytics capabilities
Identify industry trends and maintain academic collaborations to ensure scientific leadership
Ensure high-quality analytical support for IPCs, intermediates, and APIs across development stages
