Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full Time Position.   

As the Analyst, Supply & Trading – West, this role is highly diverse and integral to the success of our Supply & Trading (S&T) operations. It encompasses responsibilities such as optimizing AESO portfolio outages to maximize value, developing and maintaining quantitative models for S&T, conducting complex pricing analyses for trading opportunities, and delivering ad hoc analytics to support trading activities. The position requires strong analytical skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to work across multiple functions to drive performance and value creation.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Regular liaising with plant operations to understand the complex nuance of our fleet and specific units.

  • Analyzing market fundamentals in order to optimally plan asset outages.

  • Running and maintaining S&T’s proprietary analytical models to support decision making including scheduling plant outages.

  • Developing pricing models and tools for standard physical and financial, conventional, renewable, retail and wholesale energy products.

  • Pricing and structuring more sophisticated customized and tailored products and services.

  • Conducting the varied analytical, modeling, reporting and compliance requirements of the origination team, including customer energy consumption and tariff analysis, budget preparation, product development and pricing, corporate business and market reporting.

  • Working alongside commercial functions to help optimize portfolio value.

  • Supporting the development of Capital Power’s responses to commercial opportunities by developing, maintaining and disseminating market intelligence associated with customer needs and prospective solutions.

  • Ability to take complex outcomes and clearly and concisely communicate outcomes and recommendations.

What you will bring to the role:    

Education:

  • Minimum a bachelor degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics, or finance

  • Preference towards graduate degrees, CFA, FRM or other financial designation holders

Experience:

  • 5+ years of building, maintaining and running quantitative models.

  • Experience with modeling gas and power commodity prices and outcomes.

  • Experience in pricing commodity products and asset / portfolio optimization

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient ability to gather, collate, and analyze large amounts of data using Python, R, and other languages/toolsets. Application of algorithmic methods / machine learning

  • An advanced understanding of finance, portfolio theory, risk management principles and statistics.

  • Advanced application skills related to MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, PowerBI).

Working Conditions:

  • In-office position with limited travel required

  • Location: Calgary
