About the team.
This role sits within The Commonwealth Private Wealth Team and is an integral member of the Investment Research Team, and working collaboratively with the Private Wealth Distribution Team, Investment Operations Team and the Private Banking Team.
About the opportunity.
Reporting into the Executive Manager – Alternative Assets the Investment Research Analyst will contribute to the research, selection, and ongoing monitoring of alternatives, real assets and fixed income strategies to support robust portfolio construction and deliver strong client outcomes.
Working collaboratively with the Investment Research Team, the role will help identify and assess best-in-class investment opportunities across the market, applying discipline, strong governance, and analytical rigour to research, manager selection, and investment content. The Investment Research Analyst will also support the ongoing development and execution of the investment research framework, ensuring alignment to client needs and contributing to engagement initiatives across the Private Wealth client base.
This is an opportunity for a commercially minded and intellectually curious analyst to build deep expertise in alternatives, real assets and fixed income while contributing to a broader, client centric investment offering.
This role will support the execution of the investment strategy through high-quality research, coordination, and stakeholder engagement.
Additionally, you will:
- Support the seamless coordination of investment research across asset classes, working closely with the EM Alternative Assets and broader Investment Research Team
- Act as a flexible supporting contributor, assisting across asset allocation, portfolio construction, and investment selection activities
- Assist in the development and ongoing enhancement of the investment process, ensuring consistency, rigour, and alignment to best practice frameworks
- Produce and coordinate high-quality research content, including fund reports, performance analysis, due diligence materials, and educational material
- Provide analytical and content support to Asset Class Specialists where required – which can include authoring of reports, content and governance papers
- Support the screening, assessment, and ongoing monitoring of external investment managers, including maintaining effective relationships with key providers
- Assist with operational engagement across fund managers, platforms, and responsible entities, including supporting managed account (SMA) implementation and oversights
- Co-ordinate client research events and fund manager engagements (internal & client-facing)
- Facilitate the oversight of APL approvals and non-APL approvals, Supplementary Investments and the requisite review processes.
- Ensure compliance with the relevant Group standards and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to an effective, efficient and compliant research framework that underpins the Private Wealth Value Proposition and manages and reports on the success and efficacy of this delivery process.
- Develop strong internal stakeholder relationships and contribute to client engagement through clear, relevant, and insightful investment content
About you
To be successful, you will have:
- Some experience in a research role with a wealth manager, asset manager, broker or advisor group.
- Strong data analysis and technical writing skills and experience as it pertains to investments and investment research.
- Strong grasp of the technical evaluation aspects of asset allocation, portfolio construction, equities, fixed income, alternatives and real assets.
- Experience in wealth management and financial markets preferably in the HNW segment (e.g. Private banking or Wholesale UHNW Asset Management or HNW Wealth management).
- RG 146 training in Securities, Bonds and Managed Investments; CFA qualifications or equivalent would be an advantage.
- Experience in managed fund analysis
- Experience in Wealth management solutions and regulation relating to wholesale and sophisticated investor segment
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required
- Proven ability in analytical, organizational, problem-solving, operational and customer service skills.
- A high level of EQ coupled with the ability to work collaboratively with other teams.
- Some level of understanding of the regulatory framework governing an investment research offering in the HNW segment.
