AltaGas - Operator 1, Townsend

This opportunity is based at the Townsend facilities, a major gas‑processing operation located approximately 125 km northwest of Fort St. John and designed to process up to 550 mmscfd of raw sweet gas. You’ll be joining a high‑performing team that supports a critical AltaGas asset and contributes to the company’s longstanding commitment to safe, reliable, and efficient operations.


Reporting to the Townsend Lead Operator, this role is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the Townsend facilities and plays an essential role in maintaining strong operational performance. This is a camp-based position with a shift schedule of 10 days on, and 10 days off, rotating days and nights. Preference will be given to candidates who currently live in the Fort St. John area or are willing to relocate to the Fort St. John area for the position. Transportation is provided from Fort St. John to the facility.

Depending on experience, the annual base salary for this role is between $90,300 – 132,000/ year. Plant Operators are also provided various allowances in addition to their base salary and are eligible to participate in all benefits programs from day one.

You Will:

  • Assists in the daily operation of the Townsend facilities, working the 12-hour day/night shift schedule.
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the facility.
  • Assists in the safe and efficient operation of all scheduled and unscheduled work including: operations, repairs and maintenance.
  • Assists in commissioning, turnaround planning, and start-ups.
  • Adherence to all AltaGas Policies, Standards, Procedures and Practices.
  • Ensures plant production and reliability.
  • Recognizes and avoids inappropriate risks, considers the consequences and impact and consults with senior personnel before taking action.
  • Report and investigate facilities’ safety incidents.
  • Update and develop operating procedures.
  • Participates in critical job check lists, job hazard assessments and safe work permitting.
  • Assists and participates in EH&S meetings & inspections.

You Have:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Minimum 4th Class Power Engineering certificate.  Preference will be given to a person that holds a 3rd Class Power Engineering certificate.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience working in facility/pipeline operations.
  • Gas plant and power generation experience would be considered an asset.
