AltaGas

AltaGas - Advisor, EHS

PEC Fort Saskatchewan, AB Full time

Job Description

AltaGas - Advisor, EHS

This role is ideal for someone who excels at influencing without formal authority, working collaboratively with operations, and building strong partnerships with regulatory agencies, rail partners, and internal stakeholders.

You’ll thrive here if you enjoy autonomy, can jump in to support daily site needs, and are energized by developing practical, site‑specific processes that strengthen safety performance and compliance across a dynamic operational environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Work closely with operations to support planning for critical activities such as confined space entry, energy isolation, and handling dangerous materials

  • Provide hands‑on technical EHS support for rail and truck loading operations at our Fort Saskatchewan site

  • Partner with and maintain strong communication channels with regulatory bodies, including Transport Canada and other provincial and federal agencies

  • Coach, mentor, and guide workers and contractors daily to reinforce safe behaviors and operational discipline

  • Deliver training sessions, orientations, and EHS program education for new and existing personnel

  • Support and enhance the Midstream Operating Management System (OMS), with focus on EHS program implementation and improvement

  • Manage and monitor the Emergency Response Program, including drills, exercises, and participation on the site Incident Management Team

  • Lead and support incident investigations using TapRooT or similar methodologies; own the Incident Management Process for the site

  • Conduct site inspections, participate in safety meetings, and support the Joint Worksite Health & Safety Committee (JWHSC)

  • Maintain safety equipment and ensure EHS documentation—policies, procedures, permits—is accurate and up to date

  • Collaborate with Midstream environmental staff to ensure ongoing environmental compliance

  • Champion continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance site safety culture, system efficiency, and operational execution

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years of EHS experience, ideally in oil & gas, rail, transloading, or related industrial settings

  • NCSO, CRSP, or a relevant post‑secondary credential

  • Proven ability to influence and build credibility without direct authority

  • Knowledge of provincial and federal safety regulations, including Transport Canada

  • Experience supporting safety in field‑based operations, with a willingness to be present and hands‑on at the site

  • Expertise in EHS management systems; experience with TapRooT or similar root‑cause tools is an asset

  • A self‑starter mindset - organized, proactive, and confident working independently with minimal oversight

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to partner effectively across teams

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a valid driver’s license with a clean abstract

Why Join

  • You’ll have the autonomy to design and refine practical EHS processes tailored specifically to Fort Saskatchewan’s operational needs

  • You’ll collaborate closely with operations, leadership, rail partners, and regulators as a trusted advisor whose perspective is valued and sought after

  • At AltaGas, safety is foundational. You’ll play a key role in ensuring everyone goes home safely, every day
