Job Description
The ALM Risk Specialist supports the Head – ALM & Market Risk and works in close partnership with Treasury, Finance, Audit, and Compliance to deliver the Bank’s risk strategy and enablement thereof. The incumbent is responsible for second-line oversight of Asset and Liability Management (ALM) risks, ensuring robust governance and compliance with regulatory requirements, including Basel III standards. This role is pivotal in managing liquidity risk, interest rate risk in the banking book (IRRBB), and foreign currency risk, while supporting strategic balance sheet management and risk optimization.
- Establish a sound ALM risk management culture through awareness initiatives and stakeholder engagement.
- Build and enable strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure long-term balance sheet sustainability.
- Take responsibility for ALM risk governance structures, including preparation of ALCCO and Board-level packs with accurate and timely risk insights.
- Maintain expert knowledge of Basel III, Bank of Botswana liquidity regulations, and global ALM best practices, providing proactive advice and solutions.
- Anticipate emerging risks-including interest rate volatility, liquidity stress, FX exposures, and climate-related financial risks-and ensure sufficient capabilities are developed to manage these risks.
- Work with Treasury and specialist risk functions to align ALM risk platforms, models, and tools to business requirements, incorporating climate risk considerations into stress testing and scenario analysis.
- Provide leadership on ALM risk data initiatives, ensuring compliance with BCBS239 principles and enhancing risk aggregation and reporting.
- Monitor and report on key metrics such as LCR, NSFR, LAR, PV01, NOFP, and other risk indicators, ensuring adherence to prudential and Board limits.
- Lead stress testing and scenario analysis for liquidity and interest rate risk, including climate stress scenarios, supporting ICAAP and recovery planning.
