About the Role

The Allied Health Clinical Education Lead will lead Allied Health Clinical Education (excluding Mental Health) at SVHM and provide expert leadership in advancing clinical education and workforce capability across the Allied Health workforce inclusive of students. This role will have a focus on interprofessional education across the Allied Health Services and includes both strategic and operational requirements. 

The Allied Health Clinical Education Lead will:

  • Lead the Allied Health Clinical Education team; working in partnership with Allied Health discipline-specific clinical educators and SVHM Education and Learning Program leads, and key internal and external stakeholders.  

  • Support the design and delivery of effective teaching, learning and assessment practices of Allied Health professionals, Allied Health Assistants, and Allied Health students undertaking clinical placements at SVHM.  

  • Design, deliver and evaluate strategic education initiatives aligned with organisational and program priorities to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. 

Classifications for the position will be Grade 4.

Your Contribution

  • Qualified Allied Health Professional - registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or eligible for membership with the appropriate Professional Association for self-regulated Allied Health professions.

  • Extensive clinical and clinical education experience in the public healthcare system. 

  • Proven expertise in strategic education planning, capability building and program evaluation. 

A national criminal history check and NDIS Worker Screening Check will be required for the successful applicant prior to commencement.

2.POSITION PURPOSE

The position will lead Allied Health Clinical Education (excluding Mental Health) at SVHM. The Allied Health Clinical Education Lead will provide expert leadership in advancing clinical education and workforce capability across the Allied Health workforce inclusive of students. This role will have a focus on interprofessional education across the Allied Health Services and includes both strategic and operational requirements. The Allied Health Clinical Education Lead will be a role model for others, demonstrating well-developed clinical knowledge of the discipline areas, high-level skill and knowledge in practice education, feedback mechanisms and supervision, and well-developed leadership and management skills.

The Allied Health Clinical Education Lead will:

  • Lead the Allied Health Clinical Education team; working in partnership with Allied Health discipline-specific clinical educators and SVHM Education and Learning Program leads, and key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the design and delivery of effective teaching, learning and assessment practices of Allied Health professionals, Allied Health Assistants, and Allied Health students undertaking clinical placements at SVHM.
  • Design, deliver and evaluate strategic education initiatives aligned with organisational and program priorities to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care.
  • Actively shape and govern education, supervision and capability building frameworks across SVHM and supporting innovative approaches to interprofessional clinical education, in line with SVHM strategies, and assisting to build a strong workforce, embracing and leading contemporary clinical and professional clinical practice.
  • Ensure education delivered to Allied Health staff at SVHM is contemporary, clinically relevant, professional, and aligned with current best-practice evidence.

3.POSITION DUTIES

  • Lead the assessment of learning needs across the Allied Health staff group to assist in developing the SVHM Allied Health Clinical Education strategy to support staff in delivering effective clinical care.
  • Develop and implement an Allied Health Clinical Education Strategy underpinned by the Healthcare Educator Capability Framework
  • Support the design and delivery education initiatives aligned with strategic priorities and emerging service needs.
  • Promote a collaborative teaching environment with key stakeholders internally and externally, including a strong focus on university partnerships.
  • Build and sustain high-level partnerships to influence clinical practice change across Allied Health and broader interdisciplinary teams.
  • Drive a culture of critical reflection, innovation, and professional excellence in clinical education.
  • Work collaboratively with the Allied Health leadership team, Education and Learning leaders and discipline based clinical educators to further develop Allied Health education at SVHM.
  • Develop effective working relationships with allied health staff and teams to ensure rich learning experiences within St Vincent’s Melbourne.
  • Lead clinical education across the career pathways of Allied Health staff and aligned with the Allied Health Workforce and Wellbeing strategy to support the attraction, development and retention of Allied Health staff by providing opportunities for growth and building on strengths of Allied Health staff. Allied Health staff includes work experience students, new graduates, post graduates and support the needs of all Allied Health staff members and students (excluding Mental Health).
  • Develop and review education resources, coordinate, and facilitate ongoing support and in-service education for staff at SVHM to continuously improve service levels provided to patients/clients.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge, skills, and practice by researching and developing adult education principles, models of best practice in training and education, and developing training programs to support and improve the delivery of education to staff and students
  • Act as an appropriate and effective role model and promote a culture and supporting education practices that reflect the organisational values through demonstrated behaviours and interactions with employees and patients.
  • Support the education of staff in the requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
  • Profile staff credentialing and competency standards for Allied Health clinical practice at SVHM, including the development of competency standards.
  • Contribute to the further development of the Allied Health Staff and students within SVHM.
  • Audit/ monitor/evaluate and maintain records of clinical education delivery and efficacy.

  • Represent and promote Allied Health within and external to SVHM.

5.SELECTION CRITERIA

7.1 ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION, LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified Allied Health Professional.
  • Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or eligible for membership with the appropriate Professional Association for self-regulated Allied Health professions.
  • Completed or working towards a relevant higher degree or post graduate qualification in education.

5.1EXPERIENCE and OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Extensive clinical and clinical education experience in the public healthcare system.
  • Proven expertise in strategic education planning, capability building and program evaluation.
  • Strong understanding of the Healthcare Educator Capability Framework and the Victorian healthcare system.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead education programs aligned to strategic service priorities.
  • High-level skills in consultation, coaching, supervision and feedback provision.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capability to build relationships and foster team work.
  • Understanding of evidenced based practice and models of Allied Health with a focus on application to clinical practice.
  • Experience leading disciplinary or interprofessional education initiatives.
  • Well-developed organisation, planning and problem-solving skills.
