Compensation
Hourly base pay rate is $22.02 - $33.08/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is proud to offer a paid summer internship for an Archives Intern. This internship provides hands-on experience in a fast-paced, modern newsroom serving audiences across Atlanta, Georgia, and the South.
Program Details
- 12-week program, mid-May through early August 2026
- In-office, based in our Midtown office in Atlanta
- Interns should expect to work the Fourth of July weekend and occasional additional weekends
- Internships are temporary positions; no full-time employment is guaranteed

Archives Intern
The AJC Archives Internship is designed for graduate students pursuing a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS). This internship provides hands-on archival experience within a major modern newsroom and focuses primarily on processing and preserving the AJC’s physical archives. This role is ideal for a student who is passionate about archival work, preservation and the stewardship of journalistic history.
What You’ll Do
- Process and organize AJC’s current physical archival collections
- Apply archival best practices, including More Product, Less Process (MPLP) principles
- Create and update finding aids and descriptive metadata
- Assess materials for preservation and long-term storage
- Work independently on assigned projects with guidance from newsroom leadership
- Support ongoing archival initiatives and special collections projects
Qualifications
- Current MLIS graduate student required
- We also accept applicants who have graduated within six months of the internship start date
- Strong preference for applicants with experience in campus archives, special collections, libraries or previous archival roles
- Familiarity with basic archival practices, including MPLP
- Excellent time management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced newsroom environment
