- Work closely with and under the direction of Aircraft Mechanic Lead and Production Supervisor:
- Launches and recovers aircraft and performs required inspections to ensure airframe structure and powerplant serviceability.
- Performs aircraft ground handling and servicing.
- Adjusts, aligns, and calibrates aircraft components.
- Performs functional checks of fuel, hydraulic, engines, avionics, and electro-environmental systems.
- Rigs, tracks, and balances rotor systems.
- Advises Lead Mechanic of deficiencies affecting aircraft airworthiness.
- Performs inspections, accomplishes refurbishment and phase maintenance.
- Prepares and maintains aircraft maintenance records and historical documents.
- Maintains aircraft maintenance forms and ensures all historical documents are given to plans and scheduling.
- Accomplishes aircraft maintenance actions using the IMDS.
- Uses applicable technical orders/manuals when performing aircraft maintenance, time compliance technical order, and to troubleshoot aircraft.
- Researches, orders and receives aircraft parts.
- Prepares parts for turn-in back into the supply system.
- Initiates material deficiency reports as required.
- Inventories aircraft support equipment.
- Maintains tools, hand and special, in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Reports unserviceable tools and equipment to appropriate responsible party.
- Annotates equipment/tools inspection and condition documents.
- Checks serviceability and operates powered and non-powered support equipment.
- Complies with established policies, procedures and standards.
- Assists other mechanics/specialists as required.
- Complies with all safety, bioenvironmental, security and housekeeping standards.
- Complies with training requirements.
- Trains newly assigned personnel as required.
- Operates vehicles, both special purpose and regular as required.
- Maintains H-1or H-60 helicopters as training is provided.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Key Performance Indicators
- Knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts desirable.
- Knowledge of aircraft sheet/metal/structural modifications and repair desirable.
- Knowledge of electrical theory desirable.
- Knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers desirable.
- Requires working knowledge of technical publications.
- Receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.
- Must be able to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
- Qualifications
- Work Experience
- Minimum at least one (1) year of recent (within the past three (3) years) of H-60 or UH-1N aircraft maintenance experience.
- Educational Qualifications
- Military aviation technical school (CDC—military correspondence course or equivalent acceptable) or possess an Airframe and Power Plant License.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge and skills
- Knowledge of the use of hand and special tools, and testers is required.
- Knowledge (aircraft/vehicle movement and safety/hazards) of flight line operations is desired.
- Knowledge of aircraft technical orders/job guides/publications is desired.
- Working knowledge (input and extract data) of IMDS is desired.
- Knowledge of vibration analysis and troubleshooting procedures desired.
- Must be willing and able to perform in-flight FCF checks.
- General
- Must have basic working knowledge of aircraft safety directives.
- Must have a current civilian driver's license, and be able to obtain and maintain a government flight line driver’s license.
- Must be able to read, write, and understand English
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Restricted Area Badge (Position of Trust) clearance.
- Must be willing to work any shift, including weekends.
- Must be willing to travel (infrequent, <10%).
- Required lifting up to 50 lbs.
