The primary purpose of this position is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and /or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work a signed by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.

Major Duties:

  • Lead a team of trades and/or labor workers. On regular basis, utilizes trades and/or labor knowledge and skills to lead a team of three or more workers in performance of various related work. Performs work. Perform nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area. provide on-the-job training (OJT) to lower grade aircraft workers and other in related trade on aircraft maintenance practices, technical aspects of new/modified systems and components, and safety practices.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8200 Fluid Systems Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to lead and supervise. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic principle; the physical laws governing the behavior of fluids (Liquids and gases); and basic electrical and mechanical principles to inspect, maintain, modify, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and test aircraft hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components. knowledge of aircraft pneumatic systems and pneudraulic equipment used in maintaining and checking aircraft pneudraulic equipment such as test stands hydraulic jacks. 2. Knowledge of aircraft structures and the relationship of aircraft pneudraulic systems to the structure and to other aircraft systems; and the relationship of the work of aircraft pneudraulic system mechanic to the work of aircraft mechanic, aircraft electricians, and sheet mechanics (aircraft). Knowledge of troubleshooting procedures designed to isolate malfunction in aircraft pneudraulic systems and hoe to make necessary adjustments or repairs. 3. Skill to lead and perform repairs, overhaul, rig, adjust, and testing of aircraft pneudraulic system components. 4.Knowledge of safety regulation, practices, and procedures. knowledge of documentation procedures and other applicable publications and forms. Knowledge of activity supply procedures to initiate requestions for needed parts and supplies. 5. Ability to read and interpret technical orders. microfilm, manufactures, specification manuals, parts supply books blueprint, and schematic diagrams. 6. Skill in the use of standard and specialized tools and test equipment of the trade including fixtures, templates, scales, test stands, external power source, gas and electric air compressors, and portable rectifiers to test systems, subsystems, and assemblies; and determine the level of repair necessary. Physical Effort The work required moderate to strenuous effort. Sits, stands, lift equipment weighing 20 pounds and occasionally items weighing up to 60 pounds with help from lifting equipment or other workers. Pushes heavy jacks and test stands, stoops, bends, stretches, and works in cramped, tiring, and uncomfortable positions. Subject to high intensity and higher frequency sounds that impose a physical burden. Working Conditions Work is performed in hanger areas, outdoors, in parked aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, and inclement weather. Exposed to toxic fumes, dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids, oil, and hydraulic fluids. Employee is in danger of injury by: fluids subject to high pressures (9,0000-10,000 pounds per square inch); falling from aircraft, work stands or slips on oily floors; falling objects, or cockpits containing explosive devices; cuts, shocks, strains, or skins and eye irritation; and high intensity and higher frequency sound waves. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
