Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (Title 32), Position Description Number D1366000 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard.

Major Duties:

  • As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (Title 32), WG-8852-5/8/10, you will inspect, repair, modify, and service aircraft systems, components, and assemblies, both on- and off-aircraft. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft including periodic, phase, hourly, preflight, postflight, calendar, thru-flight, and special inspections. Inspect and perform functional checks such as landing gear retraction and operation checks on hydraulic, electrical, pressurization, lubrication, de-icing, vacuum, induction, and exhaust systems. Install equipment such as external tanks, tow reels, hoists, and pylons. Remove and replace aircraft components such as control surfaces, engines, constant speed drives, engine mounted gear boxes, wing fuel tanks or cells, landing gear mechanisms, wheels, brakes, and tires. Service oil, fluid, fuel, hydraulic, and oxygen systems to ensure proper operation. Troubleshoot and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft using gauges, meters, measuring devices, and other related test equipment. Perform major adjustments and alignments of aircraft systems or components and assist specialists as required. Adjust and maintain installed equipment such as tow targets, hydraulic reels, and drive assemblies. Perform operator maintenance on aircraft installed auxiliary power units. Tow, taxi, park, and moor assigned and transient aircraft in accordance with established procedures. Use gauges, meters, and measuring devices to perform functional checks on aircraft systems and components. Inspect for conditions such as oil, fuel, and hydraulic leaks, damaged tires, and loose panels that would make the aircraft unsafe for flight. Perform end-of-runway inspections prior to take-off to verify aircraft readiness. Utilize test equipment to troubleshoot aircraft malfunctions and verify corrective actions. Provide data for aircraft maintenance historical records, complete maintenance data collection, man-hour accounting, and other required forms. Assist the aircraft maintenance supply function in identifying parts and stock numbers and obtaining necessary parts and tools. Instruct, direct, and assign maintenance repair tasks to drill status guard members, observing work for compliance with technical publications. Comply with safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations, ensuring materials and equipment are properly stored, maintained, and secured.

Qualifications: AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will be U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum rank requirement of A1C and May not exceed the rank of TSgt. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. WG-8 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includese xperience or training in the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components, and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies, and components, e.g., such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing, and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems. WG-5 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes experience or training that has provided the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
