Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a AI Systems Engineer (Principal or Senior Principal Level) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering organization. This role is located in El Segundo, CA, or San Diego, CA.

In this role, you will incorporate AI into a system of system architecture and ensures the development of AI-enabled systems that meet stakeholders' mission needs.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Develops integration & test procedures, and verification and validation approaches; and develops system operations, sustainment, and maintenance plans and procedures.
  • Creates and analyzes models of a system, with the goals of increasing understanding and searching for incompleteness and inconsistency.
  • Adept at a range of AI development environments/tools (reuse, repository); expert/proficient with the environment being utilized.
  • Applies knowledge from various disciplines to architect and design systems; includes neuroscience, behavioral science, engineering (systems, electrical, mechanical), computer science (distributed computing/programming), philosophy/phenomenology, physics, and mathematics.
  • Uses emerging verification and validation approaches in addition to the traditional ones to test 1) multi-agent systems employing algorithms that produce ever-changing outcomes related to detection and decision, pattern recognition, and prediction, and 2) systems requirements definition for a new class of systems.
  • Follows best practices throughout the Engineering Life Cycle: Stakeholder requirements definition, functional decomposition, design synthesis, implementation, integration, test, verification & validation, operations, and sustainment.

This role may be filled at either the Principal or Senior Principal Level.

Basic Qualifications:

At the Principal Level:

  • Must have a Bachelors degree in a STEM field and at least 5 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field and at least 3 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a PhD and at least 1 year of relevant military / professional / academic experience

At the Senior Principal Level:

  • Must have a Bachelors degree in a STEM field and at least 8 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field and at least 6 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a PhD and at least 4 years of relevant military / professional experience

At Both Levels:

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain an active US Government Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.

Primary Level Salary Range: $137,800.00 - $206,800.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $172,100.00 - $258,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
