We are on the lookout for a medical computer vision and AI expert to spearhead our Radiology & Theranostics (R&T) team within the Cancer Biomarker Development (CBD) group. This pivotal role supports AstraZeneca’s innovative oncology pipeline, including cutting-edge therapies like Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs) and CAR-T therapies. Our newly established R&T organization is revolutionizing precision medicine by pioneering breakthroughs in radiology and theranostics. With teams across global sites, including Cambridge UK and Boston MA, we are set to redefine oncology development.
Accountabilities:
Based in Boston, MA, you will collaborate with a dynamic team of experts, including radiologists and oncologists, to develop groundbreaking biomarkers. Your work will enhance indication selection, biological activity assessment, and patient stratification, boosting the success of AstraZeneca's oncology pipeline. As an “AI Scientist – Computational Radiology,” you will leverage advanced techniques to process medical image data and develop sophisticated modelling algorithms. Your contributions will drive scientific insights and business value within defined project scopes.
Essential Skills/Experience:
• PhD in Bio-Medical/Electrical Engineering with over 2 years of experience or Masters with over 5 years of experience in the industry working with a strong understanding of medical image analysis.
• Demonstrated experience with a sound understanding of a variety of statistical and machine learning methods and standard statistical/ML development practices and a desire to continue to learn and develop these skills.
• Practical software development skills in standard data science tools: Python, R with demonstrable knowledge of good coding practices.
• Strong track record of publications in quality conferences and journals.
• Strong communication skills: ability to present compelling cases to collaborators and operate dynamically to identify solutions. Ability to work effectively within a team.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
• Experience with different medical imaging modalities – Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), etc.
• Experience working with MONAI tooling.
• Experience within the life sciences industry.
• Multi-GPU optimization of 3D computer vision architectures.
• Sophisticated statistical and machine learning models such as hierarchical mixed Bayesian models, vision transformers, longitudinal data analysis.

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from 135,457.60 - 203,186.40 USD Annual. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives—an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles. Benefits offered include qualified retirement programs, paid time off (i.e., vacation, holiday, and leaves), as well as health, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
