We partner extensively with a range of internal stakeholders including product aligned Middle Office groups, Settlements, Margin, Asset Servicing, Listed Derivative & Commodities Operations. We support an extensive range of Capital Markets products and services including Fixed Income (FX, Rates, Credit, Muni, Cash and Derivatives) where Citi is consistently a dominant top 3 player in the market, Equity (Cash, Derivatives, Prime Brokerage, Futures, Listed Derivatives, FXPB) where Citi has a significant growth program to continue to build out its capabilities and services; and Syndicates where we support both FI and EQ new issues and IPOs. AI, Metrics and Client Experience team within Markets OPS Technology is dedicated to developing solutions using Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Generative AI, Data and Core Engineering. This team is a leader in creating new ideas, innovative technology solutions, and ground-breaking solutions for Markets Operations and Other Line of Businesses. We work closely with our clients and business partners to progress solutions from ideation to production by leveraging the entrepreneurial spirit and technological excellence.

Job Overview:

AI, Metrics and Client Experience team is seeking a seeking a highly motivated and experienced Metrics, Insights and AI – Engineering Lead to enable our group's ambitious initiative by leveraging the power of Traditional & Generative AI, Data Engineering and Systems Integration. This role requires a strong blend of technical acumen, strategic thinking, and exceptional leadership skills.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10+ years of hands-on experience in Generative AI solutions, LLMs, Deep Learning, and ML/Data Engineering, with a proven track record of delivering impactful insights and solutions in a corporate setting.  In this role, you will be responsible for taking Product concept to production, utilizing traditional AI, generative AI and Large Language Models, modern data Integration and Agentic frameworks. You will collaborate closely with business partners and stakeholders to introduce and embrace these advanced technologies, elevating client experience, delivering value to our customers, and ensuring regulatory compliance through cutting-edge technology solutions. The role needs someone who has an entrepreneurial outlook and is willing to take chances to drive innovation.

As a senior engineering lead of the team, you will design, architect green field and brown field solutions, manage engineering team and deliver solutions for our clients and users. As such, we need an innovative, opinionated, and creative leader who has previous real-world experience.

Responsibilities:
 

• Lead Engineers and Developers: Design and execute our comprehensive Gen AI and Metrics strategy aligned with the organization's overall goals and help identify opportunities to automate and optimize business processes using generative AI.
• Lead and develop a High Performing Team: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of ML Engineers, Data Engineers and AI practitioners, ensuring retention and growth of top talent in this space.
• Drive Innovation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, engineers, and product managers, to develop impactful solutions and foster a culture of innovation and experimentation within the team.
• Hands-On Execution and Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end development and deployment of Solutions, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards. Actively involved in design and coding. 
• Collaboration and Stakeholder Interaction: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including executives, business leaders, and clients. Collaborate with technical teams to ensure the feasibility and scalability of AI solutions to solve business problems.
• Deep understanding of latest and upcoming AI trends: Stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field and identify emerging opportunities. Lead and participate in research activities to explore and advance state-of-the-art generative AI techniques. Stay actively engaged in monitoring ongoing research efforts, keeping abreast of emerging trends, and ensuring that the Generative AI team remains at the forefront of the field.
• Regulatory and Ethical Compliance: Ensure that AI initiatives meet regulatory, data privacy, ethical AI standards, and corporate governance policies requirements while pushing the boundaries of technology innovation.

Engineering Excellence & Best Practices:
 

• Drive the adoption of modern engineering ways of working, including Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD.
• Advocate for automated testing, infrastructure as code, and continuous monitoring to enhance software reliability.
• Apply Behavior-Driven Development (BDD), Test-Driven Development (TDD), and unit testing to ensure code quality and functionality.
• Conduct thorough code reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices in readability, performance, and security.
• Proficient in using AI based Coding using tools like Copilot and Claude Code, Codex or similar tools.
• Implement and enforce secure coding practices, performing vulnerability assessments and ensuring compliance with security standards.
• Collaborate effectively in agile environments, embracing DevOps principles and fostering a culture of continuous delivery and improvement.

Skills & Qualifications:
 

• 10+ years of experience in AI, ML and Data Engineering and development.
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing distributed teams.
• Deep technical expertise in middleware technologies and their application in AI systems.
• Strong understanding of modern software development methodologies (Agile, DevOps).
• Experience with Kafka and modern data stack like Trino, Iceberg, Databricks etc.
• Proficient in Python and key python libraries, Agentic Frameworks, MCP.
• Expertise in containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and experience with CI/CD pipelines for AL/ML model deployment.
• Knowledge of distributed training and parallel processing frameworks is also required to handle large-scale AI projects efficiently.
• Experience with AWS services and infrastructure related to AI/ML, workflow.
• Experience in pattern recognition and predictive modeling.
• Solid understanding of experimental design, hypothesis testing, and casual inference methods
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with a demonstrated ability to tackle open-ended problems and drive projects to completion.
• Financial industry experience would be a plus.

Education:

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
