Overview 

The AI Fellow will provide cross-domain architecture leadership to reduce redundancy, increase agility, and accelerate AI adoption across business units (BUs). This role partners with engineering and product leaders to drive platform thinking, enable platform reuse, and champion shared components, services, and data models. The AI Fellow will act as a trusted advisor to BU leadership, facilitate cross-team decision-making, and play a significant role in new partnership development and identification and adoption of emerging technical trends and AI technologies. 

 

Job Family Definition 

The job family spans multiple engineering disciplines. Work consists of designing, developing, analyzing, troubleshooting and debugging systems, software and solutions for research and/or research development of products, services, and solutions across HPE’s portfolio. Requires broad knowledge and application of engineering disciplines, methodologies and tools. 

 

Executive Level Definition 

Directs and influences diverse engineering professionals performing research, development, design and/or implementation of products, services, and solutions across the company’s portfolio. Creates and communicates technical strategy within and across functions and BUs. 

 

Management Level Definition 

Contributes to the definition of the future of a technology, theory or technique with major impact across multiple global businesses. Recognized as an authority both inside the company and in the industry. Builds executive relationships across businesses and partners with leadership to further HPE’s strategic objectives across business units. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Drive cross-technical-area architecture and platform strategy that reduces duplication, increases reuse, and improves time-to-market. 

  • Identify and prioritize opportunities for shared components, services, APIs, platform capabilities, and common data models that enable scaled, composable solutions across BUs. 

  • Advocate and operationalize “platform over project” thinking; influence roadmap and delivery models to favor shared long-lived capabilities. 

  • Accelerate enterprise AI adoption by defining reference architectures, reusable AI/ML components, model lifecycle patterns, and scalable data/platform arrangements. 

  • Partner closely with engineering, architecture, product, security, data, and cloud teams to align technical decisions and design choices across domains. 

  • Act as a trusted advisor to BU and executive leadership—facilitating cross-team decisions, resolving architectural conflicts, and aligning technical investments with business priorities. 

  • Evaluate emerging technologies, AI trends, and ecosystem partnerships; recommend and help pilot strategic collaborations that bring new capabilities to the company. 

  • Establish governance patterns, standards, and best practices for interoperability, observability, data stewardship, model governance, and platform evolution. 

  • Promote knowledge sharing and mentoring across teams; capture and disseminate learnings, reference patterns, and playbooks to improve consistency and speed. 

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership where required—contributing to architecture designs, proof-of-concepts, and technical reviews. 

  • Lead the Security COE Engineering organization for Hybrid Cloud.

 

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent. 

  • Typically 20+ years of experience with demonstrated success across multiple engineering disciplines and large-scale system design. 

  • Significant experience leading cross-functional, cross-BU technology initiatives and delivering reusable platform-level capabilities. 

 

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Proven expertise in enterprise architecture, platform engineering, cloud-native application patterns, data architectures, and AI/ML systems. 

  • Deep understanding of model lifecycle management, data modeling, shared service design, API-driven architectures, and platform governance. 

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and build consensus among senior technical and business stakeholders. 

  • Track record of identifying and delivering platform reuse opportunities that reduce redundancy and accelerate delivery. 

  • Strong strategic, analytical, and communication skills; comfortable presenting to executives, customers, and external partners. 

  • Experience building partnerships with external vendors, research labs, or startups and evaluating emerging technologies for strategic fit. 

  • Experience managing and driving engineering and architectural initiatives at the intersection of Security and Hybrid Cloud technologies.

  • Ability to lead and mentor technical teams administratively and technically when required.

The expected salary/wage range for this position is provided below. Actual offer may vary from this range based upon geographic location, work experience, education/training, and/or skill level.
– United States of America: Annual Salary USD 209,500 - 459,000 in California
The listed salary range reflects base salary. Variable incentives may also be offered.
